George Springer hits lead-off homer one night after walk-off slam (Video)
By Chad Kutzke
George Springer followed his walk-off home run with a lead off homer, a feat that hasn’t been accomplished since 1990.
George Springer had himself quite the game last night. As if a two RBI double in the seventh inning wasn’t enough, Springer pulled more late-game heroics in the 13th inning.
With his team trailing 3-2 and down to their final out, Springer’s late inning hit just cleared the fence, propelling the Houston Astros to a 5-3 extra inning victory. Springer accounted for all 5 of his team’s runs on Wednesday night and they certainly needed all of them. The Astros are off to a nice 3-0 start against their division opponent Seattle Mariners.
The 27-year-old outfielder stayed scorching hot, blasting a lead-off home run off Mariners’ pitcher Ariel Miranda. Springer has now homered in three straight games, boasting a .357 batting average and 7 RBIs to start the season.
Look at this beauty. Could this hot start be a sign of the highly touted prospect taking the next step in his career?
At the moment, Springer leads the American League in home runs (3) and and runs batted in (7). The last player to follow a walk-off home run with a lead-off home run was Yankees’ outfielder Roberto Kelly back in 1990.
Coming off his first full season in 2016, Springer looks great to start the new year. After falling a few games short last year, the Astros hope they can return to the postseason this year and Springer will be a key to the puzzle. I’m not one to go all crazy over first week results, but Springer has looked much improved at the plate so far.

The Houston Astros will host the Kansas City Royals tomorrow, where Springer will look to homer for his fourth consecutive game, another feat that does not happen very often.
