Russell Westbrook pulled off his second incredible feat of the weekend by breaking Oscar Robertson’s triple-double record.

As the 2016-17 NBA season started, Russell Westbrook had plenty of weight to carry for the Oklahoma City Thunder. He started red-hot by averaging a triple-double, something difficult for any player to keep up for an entire year. Since 1962, Oscar Robertson had been the only player to do that, until Friday night’s game against the Phoenix Suns.

With his sixth assist, Westbrook clinched a triple-double season average in points, rebounds and assists. It’s an incredible feat which was 52 years in the making, and makes for one of the greatest single-season stat lines in NBA history.

Well, the night of landmark achievements continued for the UCLA product. He came into Sunday evening’s game with 41 triple-doubles, tied with Robertson for the most in a single season in NBA history. With his 10th assist, Westbrook pulled this off in the fourth quarter against the Denver Nuggets.

What a night for the 28-year-old, who has put on a show throughout the season. It may lead him to the NBA MVP, which he’s competing against James Harden for. They’re both having star-studded years for their respective teams, and may come down to the wire when voting takes place for this prestigious award. If Westbrook can win it, it would mark a reward for the work he’s done in Oklahoma City, especially in the aftermath of Kevin Durant’s July 2016 departure.

Westbrook is immortalizing himself in the NBA record books. He’s building his resume for the Pro Basketball Hall of Fame, something he should be able to walk into, when the time comes. Things like this will only help, so let’s see if the star point guard can eventually add an NBA Championship to cement his legacy.
