Welcome to the Monday FanDuel MLB edition of Picks and Pivots, a fantasy baseball column focused on helping you find the best core lineup for today’s Main slate which kicks off at 7:05 PM EST!

For those of you finding us for the first time, the concept behind FanDuel MLB Picks and Pivots is to first identify key building blocks that can be used for any roster construction and then identify pivot points to help differentiate your lineup in hopes of a big payday!

Over the first nine slates of the FanDuel MLB season, the average winning score to take down a GPP has been 236.6 points. Looking back at last season, the winning GPP lineup on average scored 255 FanDuel points with a typical roster build that allocated 25% of your salary cap to your SP and the remaining 75% to your hitters.

Over the first nine slates of the FanDuel MLB season, the average winning score to take down a GPP has been 236.6 points.

Sunday’s Main Picks lineup ended well above the cash line with 157 FanDuel points on the back of a solid outing from Stephen Strasburg (40) and a big day from our Houston Astros stack as George Springer (24.9), Jose Altuve (15) and Evan Gattis (21.7) came through big performances. The biggest difference maker in this line-up however was the addition of Aaron Judge (31.4) who was our OF pivot once we got word that Joey Rickard would not be in the line-up for the Orioles on Sunday.

Each day we will break down our top Starting Pitcher and our top hitting stacks of the day while giving you our thoughts on roster build and lineup construction.

As always, we will look to update our picks and final lineup thought  prior to lock on our twitter account @FantasyCPR so make sure to give us a follow for all the late breaking lineup news.

Without further ado, let’s get into today’s slate!

FanDuel MLB – Top Starting Pitcher Picks

Jacob deGrom ($10,000) First things first – the weather in Chicago looks like a potential wash out and with the Cubs slated to open their season at Wrigley Field with all the pomp and circumstance, I would expect them to postpone this game to a day with better weather which would turn this five game slate into a four game one much like our Early Only contests!

With Jon Lester now off the board, that leaves us with Jacob deGrom as the lone ace on the slate and with a match-up against the Phillies, I will have heavy exposure here. deGrom was electric in his first start, flashing the same velocity with each pitch that he had been prior to last year’s injury shortened season as he racked up 6 strikeouts and gave up only 2 hits in a 40 FanDuel point outing against the Braves.

deGrom will face off today with a Phillies team he has a career 2.42 ERA against and steps into the visiting ballpark as a solid road favorite. Philadelphia strikes out at a 24% clip which only further enhances the GPP upside of deGrom in this spot and with very few other high upside arms, I love the potential for Jake today!

Tyler Glasnow ($4,400) is one of the best prospects in baseball and with a price point lower than some hitters today he makes for an intriguing play at home against the Reds. Glasnow’s salary makes him an interesting pivot play as you can easily load up on the Coors Field bats and I expect this roster build will be highly popular today for good reason.

Glasnow is a strong home favorite (-141) and the price point is such that a quality start and win would help him crush this price point. Glasnow has dominating strikeout upside as evidenced by his 133 K’s in 110 minor league innings so locking him in as a GPP dart with a Coors Field stack makes for an interesting pivot play today!

FanDuel MLB – Top Hitting Stacks

Coors Field: The reality is on a four game slate this is the clear top stack but there are a few reasons I will stay away within my deGrom roster build. First the prices are insanely high (as they should be) but the second and most important is that both Tyler Chatwood and Jarred Cosart are the kinds of pitchers who could suppress offense in this ballpark.

Chatwood and Cosart both have sub 1 HR/9 metrics in their career while limiting opposing hitters to a sub 30% hard contact rate. With their extreme ground ball tendencies (both over 50%), this is a spot where a Coors Field fade may be the best move as we let others take the price plunge against two ground ball pitchers today!

Washington Nationals versus RHP Adam WainwrightWainwright is a shell of his former self so this is not a guy I think we have to avoid and today against a left-handed heavy Washington line-up, I will make them my top stack across all formats!

Wainwright gave up 1.2 HR/9 and a 34% hard contact rate to left-handed bats in 2016 and with the weather in Washington near 70 degrees with the wind blowing out to center field at game time, this is an ideal spot to target the Nats big bats.

Bryce Harper ($4,700), Daniel Murphy ($3,600) and Adam Eaton ($3,700) make for an elite high upside top of the order stack and can be combined with Ryan Zimmerman ($2,800) who is red hot with 3 home runs in the early season!

New York Mets LHB versus Jerad EickhoffThe Mets left-handed bats are also in a good position in Philadelphia as they take on Eickhoff and his 1.4 HR/9 rate with 33% hard contact rate! The weather in Philly will be near 70 today with winds blowing out at 10 MPH to center field so their should be plenty of offensive potential here.

Jose Reyes ($2,600), Asdrubal Cabrera ($2,900) and Curtis Granderson ($2,600) make for an inexpensive top of the order stack for the Mets and fit well within any roster build where you need some high upside salary relief!

SS: Asdrubal Cabrera ($2,900)

OF: Curtis Granderson ($2,600)

OF: Bryce Harper ($4,700)

OF: Adam Eaton ($3,700)

Slate Overview: Keep an eye on the weather in Chicago but assuming we get a rain out in Wrigley we will need to adjust to a small four game slate. I love the idea of paying up for deGrom tonight and playing the fade game in Coors Field as we get two extreme ground ball pitchers on the hill. I would expect the Glasnow/Coors lineup to be popular and although it makes for an interesting GPP roster build, this may be a spot to pivot away from the popular Coors Field hitters and focus on the Nationals/Mets left-handed bats!
