Maple Leafs, Oilers playoff tickets more than $600 on average
Hockey fans in Toronto and Edmonton are ecstatic to see their teams back in the playoffs, but at what cost?
Ticket reselling site TickPick has released some information about average ticket prices for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers will be cringing.
With both Canadian teams returning to the postseason after lengthy absences, it’ll cost fans north of $600 on average to see either team’s home games in round one. TickPick has prices for the Leafs’ first game against the Washington Capitals ranging from $209 at the lowest to $1,698 at most.
The New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks are the two other teams charging more than $500, before a significant drop off to the Montreal Canadiens’ prices.
High prices for Leafs home games are nothing new, of course, as Toronto has long had a reputation for having the most expensive regular season tickets despite perennially missing the playoffs.
In fact, many people have pointed out that it could actually be cheaper for Maple Leafs fans to drive down to Washington and watch their team play on the road than at home in their first-round series against the Caps.
The same could well go for Oilers fans, as they match up against the San Jose Sharks, whose first round tickets appear to be going for $177 on average. The 26-hour drive from Edmonton to the Bay Area may put some people off, although it is the first playoff hockey Oilers fans have seen since 2006.
