The Edmonton Oilers host the San Jose Sharks as they get their first round series of the Stanley Cup Playoffs underway. Here’s how you can watch.

The 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs are upon us. On Opening Night, the Edmonton Oilers will host their division rival San Jose Sharks starting at 10:00 p.m. ET. The host team is in the playoffs for the first time since the 2005-06 postseason, when they nearly won the Stanley Cup. It’s been a long road for them, but for the first time in 11 years, there will be playoff hockey in Edmonton.

The Oilers are led by star center Connor McDavid. Edmonton wasted numerous first overall picks over the past few years, but they finally hit a grand slam with him. McDavid led the NHL in points, giving him the Art Ross Trophy. He’s the first rookie to win the award. Wayne Gretzky won it in his first NHL season, but because he played in the WHA, he was technically not a rookie at the time.

However, Edmonton is far from a one-man team. Cam Talbot has been phenomenal in net. Oscar Klefbom and Andrej Sekera have been excellent defensively. Leon Draisaitl finished in the top 10 in scoring, giving Edmonton two of the top 10 scorers.

On the other side of the ice, the Sharks enter the series a bit beaten up. It remains to be seen if Joe Thornton will play, but it appears they’ll be getting Logan Couture back. They sort of limped into the postseason, finishing the season with a 9-11-0 record from the beginning of March. However, the Sharks are the defending Western Conference champions, so Edmonton can’t afford to take them lightly.

The Oilers are the favorites to win this series. Their speed should be difficult for the Sharks to match. However, San Jose has experience on their side. But how much will this experience help them against a very skilled Edmonton team?
