DraftKings Late MLB Picks For April 13

There are six games on getaway night for our main DraftKings tournament. We have one ace, and another priced as one, but they face one another. Are either or both worth using? Let’s check out some stats and see where our money can best help us win some cash!

More from DFS

The money line in the big tournament last night sat at 101.2. I would have been well above that if I had left my second pitching slot blank instead of rolling out Steven Wright. He lost 16.4 DraftKings points! Or more than Trout got for his solo homer.

The winning lineup was down a bit to 185.25. He rode the strong game of John Lackey and the complete game from Marcus Stroman along with the two homer game from Giancarlo Stanton and two Reds with less than 1% ownership to victory.

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

Apr 8, 2017; Denver, CO, USA; Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Jon Gray (55) delivers a pitch in the first inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Coors Field. Mandatory Credit: Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Jon Gray ($10,000): Consider Gray MadBum light. He struggled against Milwaukee in his first start, but was back on track in his last one. Now he gets a Giants team that he allowed three runs on six hits to through six innings last year. He has strong strikeout potential in what should be a pitcher’s duel down at sea level.

P: Wei-Yin Chen ($7,700): Chen has held the Mets to a .221 average in 104 at bats. He has given up four homers, but the ten runs is about average, and he has 25 strikeouts. That average is well above his career mark.

C: Welington Castillo ($3,500): Francisco Liriano‘s ERA sits at 135.00 after his first start. The scary part is that it could be even higher by the end of the night. The Orioles have hit him hard in his career. Castillo is 6-19(.316) with seven walks, two homers, and five RBI against Liriano, and there are better numbers than that from some of his teammates!

1B: Chris Davis ($4,100): The Orioles torched Steven Wright last night, and are looking to do the same to Liriano tonight. Chris Davis has only faced Liriano six times, but he has three hits, including a homer and a pair of RBI. Forget the lefty-lefty matchup. All it does is lower Davis’s price a little, making him a greater potential bargain.

2B: Jonathan Schoop ($3,500): Schoop hit his first homer of the year last night. His bat is showing signs of waking up after a terrible start. I will add him to my stack against Liriano for this price!

3B: Josh Donaldson ($4,600): The Blue Jays as a whole are hitting .304 against Kevin Gausman. Donaldson in particular has hit him hard. He is 6-18 with three walks, a double, a homer, and four RBI against Gausman.

SS: Troy Tulowitzki ($4,000): Tulo is only 2-8 against Gausman, but both hits went for extra bases. He has a double, a homer, and two RBI against Gausman. This is going to be a high scoring game. You likely want some of both sides of this one!

OF: Carlos Gonzalez ($3,800): Forget everything you think you know about lefty on lefty matchups for this one. As good as Madison Bumgarner has been, it is a left handed hitter that has been one of his biggest thorns. That thorn is Gonzalez, who is 18-56 lifetime against Bumgarner with four walks, four doubles, five homers, and ten RBI against the Giants’ ace.

OF: Adam Jones ($3,900): Jones is 8-21(.381) with a double, three homers, and five RBI in his career against Francisco Liriano. Jones could be an absolute steal at this price, especially considering Liriano’s rocky start to the season thus far.

OF: Yoenis Cespedes ($4,800): Cespedes is 5-19(.263) with a walk, a homer, and two RBI against Wei Yin Chen. You can live with the low average with the way Cespedes can launch balls into orbit. He is as good a bet to go deep as anyone.

Apr 2, 2017; Phoenix, AZ, USA; San Francisco Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner against the Arizona Diamondbacks during opening day at Chase Field. Mandatory Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Madison Bumgarner ($12,500): Bumgarner’s career stats against the Rockies aren’t great, but a lot of that has to do with his career 4.00 ERA at Coors Field. In San Francisco, his ERA drops to 2.74. The 56 strikeouts in 208 career at bats against this current incarnation of the Rockies is a very good ratio. I will spend the money to chase strikeouts here.

P: Jimmy Nelson ($6,700): Consider this the beginning of the stack against Bronson Arroyo. Nelson is in a great spot for the win against Arroyo. He struggled against the Cardinals in his first start, and this Brewer lineup may be young, but they can sure hit! The Reds are hitting a solid .258 against Nelson in 97 at bats, but he has only allowed one homer and eight runs. The 25 strikeouts gives him great strikeout potential at a low price!

C: Jett Bandy ($3,000): Honestly, I want as much exposure to Bronson Arroyo as I can get. He was hit hard in his first start, and likely will be again. The Brewers are an all-or-nothing offense, but I bet they get a lot more than nothing against Arroyo.

1B: Eric Thames ($4,000): Thames has at least five DraftKings points in all but one game. He is currently only starting against right handed pitching, but Arroyo is right handed. The way Arroyo pitched in the opener, Thames might launch one into the Ohio River…..

2B: Jonathan Villar ($4,700): Villar has struggled a little at the plate, but he had multiple hits last night, and has homered twice this season. There is a good chance he puts something together against Arroyo.

3B: Chase Headley ($3,300): I stacked Orioles in the first lineup. In this one I am going with a small Yankees stack. The team has six homers in only 56 at bats against Matt Andriese. Headley has two of them, three RBI, and a single in his nine at bats against Andreise. Headley is off to a fast start this year after a disappointing showing in the Bronx last year. He could be what the Yankees paid for this year.

SS: Starlin Castro ($3,600): Castro has only four at bats against Matt Andriese. Three of them have ended in a strikeout. The other is a solo homer. May as well stack Yankees today! They are cheap enough, which is surprising given the opponent.

OF: Chris Dickerson ($3,700): If you’re going to pay up for pitching, you have to find bargains somewhere. Dickerson is perfect against Luis Severino. In four at bats, he has two walks, a double, a homer, and three RBI. Severino may be great some day, but he is still in the infant stages of his MLB career. He wasn’t particularly strong in the opener. Dickerson will try to make sure that continues.

OF: Aaron Judge ($3,900): Judge has only four at bats against Andriese. Two of them are singles. The other is a solo homer. Add Judge to the stack against Andriese!

OF: Adam Duvall ($4,400): Duvall already has six hits in nine at bats against Jimmy Nelson. However, five of those hits are singles, and the other is a solo homer. Duvall is racking up points, but the lack of success by his teammates limits the amount of damage he can do.
