DraftKings Late MLB Picks For April 14

We have a big 13 games slate for our main DraftKIngs tournament tonight. Several aces are back on the hill, and we have a major league debut and a first major league start on tap! Should we touch that? Doubtful, but we can stack against it! Which aces are worth using? Are there hitting bargains to use two aces? Let’s take a look at some stats!

More from DFS

The money line in the big tournament last night sat at 111.5. I hit on the pitchers in one lineup, but completely missed on the Yankees stack. The other suffered from Wei-Yin Chen. What a waste of Cespedes!

The winning lineup was way up to 220.45 DraftKings points. He picked the huge game from Luis Severino, and had Travis d’Arnaud, Yoenis Cespedes, and Aaron Hicks.

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

P: Julio Teheran ($8,500): Still think Teheran isn’t ace caliber? He has not given up a run in 13 innings this year! Tonight he gets a young Padres team that is scoring runs more than they were last year, but this is still a lineup that hasn’t had much success against Teheran. The Padres are hitting a solid .260 against him in 50 at bats with a fairly low nine strikeouts. They have also hit three homers, but that has resulted in only four runs. I am banking on Teheran’s current hot streak and his solid history against the Padres tonight.

P: Dallas Keuchel ($9,600): Keuchel has been outstanding to start the 2017 season. He has given up just one run in 14 innings! The strikeouts aren’t there yet, but do you really care if he is pitching this well? He has a spectacular 0.5 WHIP! The A’s have struggled against Keuchel anyway. Oakland is hitting a decent .246 against him in 122 at bats, but they have not hit a home run off of him and have scored just seven runs. He has low strikeout potential for the price, but chances are that he has anther strong outing here.

C: Chris Iannetta ($2,200): Am I crazy? Maybe. My baseball picks have left something to be desired this year. However, Iannetta has actually hit Clayton Kershaw pretty well. He is 6-25 with four walks, a double, a homer, and six RBI against Kershaw in his career. Iannetta is a great punt option for those of you paying for pitching, and Kershaw has looked human this year. He has a 3.46 ERA despite a 0.77 WHIP, and the Diamondbacks have 19 runs against him in just 135 at bats.

1B: Freddie Freeman ($4,600): Jhoulys Chacin got knocked around by the Dodgers in his first start, but rebounded with a scoreless outing against the Giants in 6.2 innings . Matt Kemp has really hit Chacin hard, but he is out. Instead, I will go to Freeman. Freeman is 3-9 with two walks and two solo homers in his career against Chacin.

2B: Starlin Castro ($3,500): Castro knows Michael Wacha well from his days with the Cubs, and he is glad to see him again! Castro is 10-22(.455) with a walk, two doubles, two homers, and seven RBI against Wacha.

3B: Travis Shaw ($3,800): Shaw is 1-3 with a two run homer against Scott Feldman. The Reds as a whole are playing very well right now, but the Brewers have a lot of power in a small stadium facing a questionable pitching staff. Most of them are worth a look tonight.

SS: Troy Tulowitzki ($3,900): Tulowitzki is 9-22(.409) with four walks, two doubles, a homer, and four RBI against him in his career dating back to both men’s days in the NL West. Miley was effective in his first outing, but he still allowed a lot of base runners. He wont get away unscathed today if that is the case once again.

OF: Mike Trout ($5,200): Danny Duffy has solid career numbers against the Angels as a whole, but not against Trout. Trout is 4-9 with a walk, a double, a homer, and two RBI against Duffy. Trout was my most played position player last year in DraftKings. You see why. He has good career numbers against almost everyone, it seems.

OF: Mookie Betts ($5,000): Some Red Sox have hit Chris Archer hard, but not many. Betts is one that has. Mookie is 8-23(.348) with seven walks, a double, two homers, and six RBI in his career against Archer already. Stacking against a pitcher like Archer is risky, but when the stats look like this, its safe to go with Betts.

OF: Carlos Gonzalez ($3,600): This game being played at sea level has a lot to do with CarGo being so cheap. So does his facing off with Johnny Cueto. However, Gonzalez is 10-29(.345) with two walks, two doubles, a homer, and six RBI in his career against Cueto.

P: Noah Syndergaard ($11,400): Thor has stricken the Marlins’ bats dead so far in his career. The Fish are hitting a solid .250 against him in 88 at bats, but they have only one home run, just six runs, and a staggering 32 strikeouts. There is a lot of strikeout potential here, and if you are worried about Giancarlo Stanton, don’t be. He is 0-11 with a walk a six strikeouts against Syndergaard.

P: Chris Archer ($8,400): I was going to use Adam Conley. I had a nice paragraph written about his accolades against the Mets and everything. Then last night’s game went 16 innings and Conley gave up the game winning homer. Now it seems as though Edinson Volquez will start in his place. That turns most Mets hitters into good bets. The Red Sox are hitting a solid .254 against Archer with only three homers in 185 at bats with 17 runs. They have also struck out 56 times! Archer is off to a good start, and the stats favor him here.

C: Evan Gattis ($3,800): It’s nice being able to go to a power hitter like Gattis at catcher when we want to beef up our lineup. Gattis is 3-11 with with two homers and three RBI against Kendall Graveman in his career. Graveman has been brilliant so far this year, but he is going to have his hands full with the Astros.

1B: Chris Davis ($4,000): Aaron Sanchez has done well against the Orioles overall. The exception is Crush Davis. Davis is 6-16(.375) with an incredible nine walks, a double, three homers, and four RBI. Davis is all but guaranteed to put up some crooked numbers here.

2B: Steve Pearce ($3,400): I am leery to use the struggling Brad Miller despite good career numbers against Archer. So instead I will move to Pearce so I can use Archer. Oh, the irony! This isn’t a charity use of Pearce though. He is 5-12(.417) with two homers and five RBI against Wade Miley.

3B:  Kyle Seager ($4,000): Seager has pounded Martin Perez so far. He is 12-30 with two walks, a double, four homers, and seven RBI off of him already. Perez has pitched fairly well so far this year, but like Miley, has allowed a lot of base runners.

SS: Corey Seager ($4,200): How about a Seager stack tonight? The younger Seager is five for eight already against Zack Greinke with two walks, a double, two homers, and four RBI. Even though Greinke is off to a good start, Seager could knock one deep off of him. If you don’t want to use Seager against a tough pitcher, I suggest Elvis Andrus and his 15 career RBI against Felix Hernandez.

OF: Nelson Cruz ($4,400): Cruz’s poor start to the season still has not subsided, but he may get on track against Martin Perez. Cruz is 5-10 with a walk, a double, two homers, and three RBI against the Rangers’ lefty.

OF: Gerardo Parra ($2,900): Check the lineup to make sure that Parra is in there, but he should be considering his history against Johnny Cueto. Parra is 14-38(.368) with three walks, four doubles, two homers, and three RBI against him. Parra could be a sneaky cheap play tonight.

OF: Jay Bruce ($3,500): Bruce is 9-19(.474) with four walks, a double, two homers, and three RBI against Edinson Volquez. It’s almost like Bruce had him figured out when they were teammates with the Reds and he has used that against him since. At any rate, the Mets are hot right now and hitting the ball well. The only Met I wouldn’t use against Volquez is Curtis Granderson. The Grandy Man is everything but against Volquez. He is 0-12 with five strikeouts.
