The Edmonton Oilers will look to bounce back after the San Jose Sharks got a comeback win in Game 1. Here’s what you need to know about Game 2.

The first period of the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs couldn’t have gone better for the Edmonton Oilers. They exited the first 20 minutes up two goals over the San Jose Sharks, who didn’t have Joe Thornton. The remaining 43 minutes of the first game, however, didn’t go their way. San Jose fought back from an early 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 in overtime.

Best of all, the Sharks came back without Thornton. He missed Game 1 due to a knee injury. However, Thornton is expected to be a game time decision in Game 2. After getting some of their playoff jitters out of the way, the Sharks dominated most of the game. Their experience from last season’s Stanley Cup run gave them the confidence necessary to face the 2-0 deficit in an energetic arena.

On the other side of the ice, Edmonton is looking for a much better game from their team on Friday. They got off to a great start, but couldn’t adjust to the Sharks once they got going. Edmonton will have to better utilize their speed and create more rush attempts. Outside of Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Oscar Klefbom and Milan Lucic, not many Oilers had a great game on Wednesday.

If Thornton plays on Friday, that should be a huge lift for the Sharks. Edmonton must play a whole 60 minutes (and maybe even more) to beat a team like San Jose. Hopefully for their sake, they’ve learned this lesson. Right now, all the pressure is on the Oilers.
