DraftKings Late MLB Picks For April 16
There are only six evening games tonight as most teams are in action for the matinee games. That doesn’t mean that we have bottom of the barrel options though. There are still three pitchers priced at or near ace level. Who is worth paying for? Where are the bargains? Let’s check out those past stats!

The money line was at 114.95 last night. My lineup was undone by terrible pitching. The hitters did all they were supposed to. Kenta Maeda was priced in five figures and didn’t even make it through that many innings!
The winning lineup was back up at 200.95 points. The pitching performances of Jacob deGrom and James Paxton propelled this lineup along with the Dodgers and Padres mini-stacks.
NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

P: Rich Hill ($9,800): Hill dominated Arizona in his only start against them. They picked up just three hits in six innings, but they did score three runs. The kicker here was the 12 strikeouts. That total will mitigate any damage done by the Arizona offense. Cole Hamels has been pounded by Seattle, especially at Safeco Field. Hill is easily the best bet.
P: Hector Santiago ($5,800): Santiago has been utterly brilliant against the White Sox in his career. The Sox are hitting just .141 in 78 at bats with only one home run and just four runs scored. He has also racked up 25 strikeouts. There is money to afford a higher priced player, but I’m following the stats here. These very impressive stats.
C: Evan Gattis ($3,800): Gattis has a solo homer in three at bats against Cotton so far. If he is in the lineup this afternoon, I like Gattis here. The problem has been getting playing time behind Brian McCann. If Gattis is out, I’m going to Jonathan Lucroy.
1B: Paul Goldschmidt ($4,500): Goldie has singled and driven in a run against Rich Hill. However, Goldschmidt hits lefties very well. I will spend the money and take the chance that Goldschmidt takes him deep.
2B: Robinson Cano ($4,300): If Brian Dozier is in the lineup, I will play him instead. Dozier is 11-29(.379) with four walks, five doubles, three homers, and nine RBI against James Shields. Cano is an excellent plan B though. He is 8-29(.276) with three homers and four RBI against fellow lefty Cole Hamels.
3B: Nolan Arenado ($4,300): Arenado is 7-18(.389) with two walks, a double, a triple, and three RBI against Jeff Samardzija. The Rockies have done very well in this series. Will it continue?
SS: Corey Seager ($4,300): Taijuan Walker is off to a poor start. Corey Seager is not. It’s worth a shot!
OF: Carlos Gonzalez ($4,000): CarGo is 6-26(.231) against Samardzija, but he has a walk, a double, and a solo homer against him. Gerardo Parra is a better bet if he is back from paternity leave if you don’t trust CarGo.
OF: Nelson Cruz ($4,300): Cruz is 4-15(.267) with two walks and a solo homer against Hamels. A Mariners stack against Hamels makes me pretty nervous, but Kyle Seager and Danny Valencia also have good numbers against Hamels for those of you willing to go with it.
OF: Byron Buxton ($3,500): Buxton has been nothing short of awful this year. His defense has been electric, but he is just 3-37(.081) at the plate. So why is he here? Because Buxton is 3-6 with a walk, a double, two homers, and four RBI against James Shields.
