DraftKings Late MLB Picks For April 19

Aces are wild in the 11 night games tonight! There are seven pitchers priced over $9,000. Where are the hitter bargains to afford those in this tier? Who is the best option? Should we use two from this tier? Let’s check the stats!

More from DFS

The money line held steady at 114.3 last night. My lineup was undone by terrible pitching in one, and lack of Nolan Arenado in the other.

The winning lineup was also steady at 200.9 points. Luis Severino helped, but it was Arenado and the Ohio stack that won it for him.

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

DraftKings
Apr 2, 2017; Phoenix, AZ, USA; San Francisco Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner throws against the Arizona Diamondbacks during opening day at Chase Field. Mandatory Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Clayton Kershaw ($13,800): Yes, I am aware that Kershaw gave up four runs in a loss to the Rockies in Denver ten days ago. I am also aware that the Rockies have hit seven home runs against Kershaw. However, there is only one stat you need to know. This tells the whole story and why Kershaw should be 100% owned tonight. Kershaw is 9-0 with a 0.47 ERA in his last ten starts at Dodger Stadium. Everything else is irrelevant.

P:   Madison Bumgarner ($11,700): We all know that Bumgarner dominated the Royals in the 2014 World Series, but do we know to what extent? We do now. Bumgarner gave up one run, a solo homer to Salvador Perez, in 21 innings pitched. Not enough? He gave up just nine hits and one walk in that span while striking out 17. The regular season stats for the current Royals aren’t any better. They are hitting .107 against him in 28 at bats with just one run and eight strikeouts.

C: Austin Hedges ($2,700): Hedges is one of the few that has hit Zack Greinke pretty well. He is two for three with a solo homer against him. However, if Jose Lobaton starts for Washington, I’m going there. Lobaton is an impressive 7-15(.467) with three walks, a double, two homers, and five RBI against Julio Teheran.

1B: Justin Smoak ($2,800): If you want to spend that much on pitching, you need to find bargains elsewhere. Smoak looks to be a great bargain tonight. He is 7-24(.292) with three walks, a double, three homers, and nine RBI against Rick Porcello in his career.

2B: Aaron Hill ($2,200): Hill has been getting starts all over the place for the Giants lately. You can expect him in there tonight as well. Hill is 4-8 with two walks, a double, two homers, and three RBI in his career against Jason Vargas.

3B: Justin Turner ($3,500): Turner has hit Tyler Anderson very hard. He is 7-12(.583) with a walk, two doubles, a homer, and four RBI against Anderson. Turner is too cheap tonight, but I will take it since I am trying to build the best pitching lineup in history. Wish me luck!

SS: Ronald Torreyes ($2,600): This was my last position to fill, and I am choosing to fill it with a Torreyes against Dylan Covey in his second career start. Yankee Stadium can be intimidating to seasoned veterans. It’s worth rolling the dice with Torreyes just to see if he can get a hit or two.

OF: A.J. Pollock ($4,000): It’s time to get some exposure to a bad pitcher for a decent price. Pollock has only faced Jhoulys Chacin four times. He has come away with two singles, a homer, and two RBI. Pollock is off to a bit of a slow start, but he has six hits in the last two games. He should get at least one more here to keep his modest hit streak going.

OF: Corey Dickerson ($3,300): Dickerson is 4-6 with a double and a solo home run against Jordan Zimmerman. The Rays have taken Zimmerman deep seven times in only 78 at bats. Logan Morrison has done so three times, but he is just 4-21 overall. Morrison is worth a look if you are chasing homers.

OF: Michael Conforto ($3,300): Conforto has been starting against right handed pitchers lately. You can bet that he will be in there tonight. Conforto is 4-7 with a walk, two homers, and three RBI against Vince Velasquez.

Apr 15, 2017; Washington, DC, USA; Washington Nationals right fielder Bryce Harper at bat against the Philadelphia Phillies during the first inning at Nationals Park. Mandatory Credit: Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Chris Archer ($9,700): Dallas Keuchel has been hit hard by Mike Trout and Albert Pujols, which hurts his stats against the Angels. I will instead go to Archer, who is locked in already this year. He has also held the Tigers to a .231 average with three homers and ten runs in 104 at bats. Those stats are only average, but the 33 strikeouts are anything but. He also has great win potential against Jordan Zimmerman, who was bombed by the Twins his last time out.

P: Robert Gsellman ($6,700): Gsellman was brilliant late last year, but that brilliance has not carried over into this season. That said, his stats aren’t so bad if you take out the shellacking the Marlins dropped on him in his last start. The Phillies are hitting a solid .277 against Gsellman in 47 at bats, but they have scored just one run and struck out 11 times. Couple that with Velazquez’s issues with the Mets, and Gsellman could be a sneaky play.

C: Evan Gattis ($4,000): Gattis has faced JC Ramirez five times so far. Ramirez has only got him out once! Gattis has a walk, a single, two homers, and three RBI against Ramirez. If Gattis is in the lineup, play him!

1B: Joe Mauer ($3,700): Mauer doesn’t have much for power anymore, but he can still get on base. He has done that a whole lot against Trevor Bauer. Mauer is 10-28(.357) with two walks, six doubles, a homer, and six RBI against Bauer. Cleveland has been giving up quite a few runs lately. That will probably continue here.

2B: Daniel Murphy ($4,100): Murphy is 8-20 with six walks, four doubles, a homer, and six RBI against Julio Teheran. Teheran has been outstanding this year, but the Nats have crushed him. The team is hitting .314 with 11 homers and 37 RBI in just 172 at bats.

3B: Nolan Arenado ($4,200): Arenado isn’t this cheap very often, but if you feel like trying to buck Kershaw’s dominance, Arenado is 12-36 with two walks, three doubles, two homers, and four RBI against the dominant lefty. Gerardo Parra also has really good numbers against Kershaw, but he has been sitting against all lefties lately. If he is in, you can consider him for $2,900.

SS: Corey Seager ($4,300): Seager is 4-12 with a walk, a triple, a home run, and three RBI against Tyler Anderson. Anderson is one of the only players in history who actually has a better ERA at Coors Field than on the road.

OF: Yoenis Cespedes ($4,200): Vince Velasquez is off to a slow start this year, and the Mets are part of the reason why. Cespedes now is 2-6 with a walk, a double, a homer, and five RBI against Velasquez. Can Cespedes take him deep again? At this price, why not find out?

OF: Bryce Harper ($4,900): Harper has destroyed Julio Teheran. He is 13-31(.419) with four walks, three doubles, five homers, and 12 RBI against Teheran in his career. Paying up for pitching on this slate is fine, but you should find a way to include Harper as well.

OF: Jose Bautista ($4,200): Rick Porcello has had a rough start to 2017, and it wont get any better against the Blue Jays. The boys up north have hit him hard in his career, and none harder than Bautista. He is 16-38(.421) with seven walks, four homers, and 11 RBI against Porcello in his career. Will this finally get Joey Bats going? He has just one RBI on the season!
