DraftKings Late MLB Picks For April 22

There are seven games in the late DraftKings tonight. We have four pitchers priced as aces tonight. Are any of them worth paying for? Paying up for pitching worked last night. Will it again? Are there enough bargains to be found? Let’s check out the past stats for some help in this matter!

More from DFS

The money line was down a bit to 102.2 DraftKings points. One of my lineups got close, but Cleveland getting dominated by the White Sox hurt, as did a somewhat disappointing outing from Drew Pomeranz.

The winning lineup was also down a ways to 211.9 DraftKings points. He had the Corey Kluber shutout, and a huge game from Robinson Chirinos and a Diamondback stack. The huge eighth inning for Arizona against the Dodgers put this lineup over the top.

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

Apr 18, 2017; Los Angeles, CA, USA; Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado (28) celebrates after hitting a solo home run in the fifth inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers during a MLB baseball game at Dodger Stadium. The Rockies defeated the Dodgers 4-3. Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

P: Robbie Ray ($8,600): Ray dominated the Dodgers in his last start, giving up just a solo homer in six innings while striking out ten. Ray is now boasting a 1.96 ERA in three starts, and has struck out 24 batters in 18.1 innings pitched. Ray has been a steal so far, and looks to be once again.

P: Jerad Eickhoff ($8,300): Eickhoff has held the Braves to a .217 average in 69 at bats with three homers, but has only allowed five runs and struck out 15. Eickhoff is off to a good start this year as well, with a 2.75 ERA and 18 strikeouts in his three starts. I also like the win potential here against Jaime Garcia.

C: Jonathan Lucroy ($4,100): Lucroy is 3-12 with two walks, a homer, and two RBI in his career against Ian Kennedy. As mentioned before, Kennedy is off to a really good start, but there is a history here.

1B: Freddie Freeman ($4,600): One of these games Freeman will come through for me. After all, he does have seven homers already. Freeman is 6-16 with a walk, a double, and two solo homers off of Jerad Eickhoff. He is as good a bet as any to homer tonight.

2B: DJ LeMahieu ($4,600): LeMahieu is only 3-8 against Matt Moore, which is light compared to some of his teammates. He only has one walk and one RBI and all of the hits are singles, but that can change at any time at Coors. Especially with a lefty on the mound and some right handed power in the lineup.

3B: Nolan Arenado ($5,100): Arenado was a dud last night, but he is terrorizing Matt Moore so far in his career. Arenado is 6-11(.545) with a walk, three doubles, a homer, and two RBI off of Moore in his career. We have mentioned Arenado’s great numbers at Coors Field. He should add to them tonight.

SS: Tim Anderson (3,400): Anderson is 6-13(.462) with a double, a homer, and three RBI in his career against Carlos Carrasco. A White Sox stack could be in order since they have abused Carrasco in his career (.294 with eight homers and 26 RBI in just 136 at bats), but Carrasco is off to a great start, and Corey Kluber shut them out last night. However, if you want to stack, I suggest Anderson, Jose Abreu, Todd Frazier, Avisail Garcia, and Melky Cabrera. Combined those five are 36-106(.340) with seven homers and 24 RBI.

OF: Melky Cabrera ($3,700): I just couldn’t stay off Melky. He is 9-29(.310) with three walks, a double, two homers, and an impressive eight RBI against Carrasco.

OF: Adam Jones ($4,300): Steven Wright was bludgeoned for eight runs by the Orioles two starts ago. Jones was a big reason for that. He is now 3-11 against Wright with a walk, two homers, and four RBI against him.

OF: Trey Mancini ($3,300): Mancini had the big blow in that game, with his only official at bat against Wright being a three run homer. Check to make sure Mancini is in the lineup. If he isn’t, I am going to go with a Red Sox right hander.

Apr 18, 2017; Los Angeles, CA, USA; Los Angeles Dodgers left fielder Kike Hernandez reacts after striking out in the seventh inning against the Colorado Rockies during a MLB baseball game at Dodger Stadium. The Rockies defeated the Dodgers 4-3. Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

P: Tyler Skaggs ($8,200): This is a risk, but the Blue Jays have only scored 3.3 runs per game, and that includes last night’s eight run outburst. Skaggs has also held the Jays to a .161 average in 31 at bats with just three runs scored. The bad news is that he has only struck out four. However, he has 19 strikeouts in three starts this season. Coupled with Toronto’s offensive struggles, this looks like a pretty safe bet.

P: Ian Kennedy ($7,500): Kennedy’s number against the current Rangers aren’t that great, but once you take out the numbers of the injured guys, they get better really quick. The active Rangers are hitting just .188 in 85 at bats with three homers and seven runs with 29 strikeouts. That vaults Kennedy way up my list of starters. Of course, his 2.37 ERA and 1.05 WHIP look great as well despite the 0-2 record.

C: Dustin Garneau ($3,600): I want Garneau in the lineup today against lefty Matt Moore. He is 1-3 with a double lifetime against Moore, but there is always the threat of a home run at Coors Field.

1B: Carlos Santana ($4,300): Santana is 6-18 with four walks, two doubles, and three RBI against Mike Pelfrey. There is also the little 5.61 career ERA that Pelfrey has at new Comiskey Park in four starts. Stacking Indians against Pelfrey could be a great idea.

2B: Brandon Drury ($3,400): Drury is 3-5 with a walk, two doubles, and two RBI so far against Kenta Maeda. The Japanese import is off to a horrible start in his sophomore MLB season, posting a 7.07 ERA in three starts. Considering what Drury and company did to the Dodgers bullpen last night, I think I want a couple in my lineup today as well.

3B: Kike Hernandez ($2,800): You remember that one solo homer that Robbie Ray gave up in his last start? It was to Hernandez, who is now 6-16(.375) with two walks, a double, a triple, two homers, and four RBI lifetime against Robbie Ray. For this price, I will take a flier on him doing it again.

SS: Xander Bogaerts ($4,700): Bogaerts is looking to play today, and I want all kinds of exposure to the Orioles and young lefty Jayson Aquino. If Bogaerts can’t go, I will go with Aledmys Diaz, who has homered off of Chase Anderson once in his career. However, if Bogaerts can go, I want right handed pop against Aquino.

OF: Mookie Betts ($5,300): Betts is hitting .340 with a homer and eight RBI this year. You can bet I want him in there against Aquino as well. Betts has a good chance at putting up some big numbers here, just like the rest of the Red Sox do.

OF: Mike Trout ($5,200): No stats here either, I just want Trout out there against Casey Lawrence, who was knocked around in relief by the Rays earlier this season. Lawrence wont go deep into the game, but that’s okay. Trout is a career .338 hitter in 68 at bats against the Jays with 13 career RBI. You can trust him against the whole staff!

OF: Ryan Braun ($4,800): Braun is 8-28(.286) with a homer and four RBI in his career against Lance Lynn. Lynn was brilliant his last time out, but the power hitting Brewers could prove to be a much tougher task.
