DraftKings MLB Picks For April 24

There are seven games in the late DraftKings tonight. We have four pitchers priced as aces tonight. Are any of them worth paying for? Paying up for pitching worked last night. Will it again? Are there enough bargains to be found? Let’s check out the past stats for some help in this matter!

More from DFS

The money line in the late slate was at 120.55 yesterday, which is a pretty solid total. One of my lineups made it in thanks to Taylor Motter‘s grand slam and a nice game from Max Scherzer. The other missed because of Andrew Triggs.

The winning lineup was just 198.75 DraftKings points, so there wasn’t a lot of separation in the cash lines. The winner had another complete game from Marcus Stroman and a solid outing from Yu Darvish along with a Mariner stack to take home the top prize.

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

Apr 7, 2017; St. Louis, MO, USA; Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Amir Garrett (50) pitches to a St. Louis Cardinals batter during the fifth inning of his Major League debut at Busch Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Zack Greinke ($9,400): Greinke has held the Padres to a .234 average in 124 at bats, and a .294 wOBA. San Diego isn’t really hitting anything hard. They have only three homers, nine runs scored, and eight RBI against Greinke. The bad news is that Greinke only has 25 strikeouts in 124 at bats, but judging by his season stats, he may be able to improve that ratio here.

P:  Amir Garrett ($6,700): There isn’t any history here, but Garrett has been brilliant in his first three starts. He is 2-1 with a 1.83 ERA and a ridiculous 0.86 WHIP. He also has 21 strikeouts in 19.2 innings pitched. The Brewers have a lot of power, but they also strike out a lot. And Garrett gets the added bonus of facing Matt Garza, which gives him an increased change at a win.

C: Austin Hedges ($3,000): Hedges is 2-6 with a solo homer against Zack Greinke in his career. It has been mostly an all-or-nothing season for Hedges so far. He has five home runs and 11 RBI already, but he is only hitting .179. Three of those homers have come in the last three games. History says that he could do it again!

1B: Anthony Rizzo ($5,300): Rizzo is 4-7 with a cycle, two runs scored, two RBI, and a ridiculous .821 wOBA against Chad Kuhl so far. The Cubs as a whole have crushed Kuhl. They are hitting a whopping .447 in 38 at bats with a .547 wOBA and 1.316 OPS. Just about every Cub is worth a look in this one.

2B: Jonathan Schoop ($3,800): Schoop is 5-16(.312) with a double and two solo homers against Chris Archer. Chris Davis has also hit Archer hard, but there are so many great options at first base tonight that I chose someone who is going against a worse pitcher.

3B: Joey Gallo ($4,000): Gallo has only faced Phil Hughes three times, but his one hit was a solo home run. His average is still lacking, but Gallo has slugged five homers already filling in for Adrian Beltre, including three in the last five games. The power is undeniable. He is finally starting to come around in the majors.

SS: Addison Russell (3,700): Russell is actually 0-3 against Kuhl, but he has walked, stole a base, and scored two runs. With the history of the Cubs against Kuhl, why not? Russell is off to a good start this year.

OF: Mike Trout ($5,300): Trout is 5-13(.385) with two walks, three runs, three RBI, and two steals against Francisco Liriano. He has yet to take the lefty deep yet, but he is contributing everywhere else, which means Trout should still put up some crooked numbers.

OF: A.J. Pollock ($4,400): Pollock has four hits in six tries already against Jhoulys Chacin. He has a walk, a homer, two RBI, and a solid .762 wOBA against Chacin. Chacin’s numbers as a whole are pretty good against Arizona, so Pollock is the only Arizona player I’m after.

OF: Kevin Kiermaier ($4,300): Kiermaier is 3-10 with a double, a homer, two steals, three runs scored, and two RBI in his career against Ubaldo Jimenez. Logan Morrison has also crushed Ubaldo as well. You can probably get away with a small Rays stack today, but Kiermaier and Morrison are the two to target.

Apr 13, 2017; Kansas City, MO, USA; Kansas City Royals pitcher Jason Vargas (51) delivers a pitch against the Oakland Athletics during the fifth inning at Kauffman Stadium. The Royals won 3-1. Mandatory Credit: Peter G. Aiken-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Francisco Liriano ($9,700): The Angels are only hitting .209 in 110 at bats against Liriano with just a .265 wOBA. They have just four extra base hits, two of which are home runs, and ten runs scored. Liriano also has a healthy 28 strikeouts. Liriano has been good against two good teams after his opening disaster against the Rays. He looks safe to roll with now, especially against an Angels team that has struggled to score runs.

P: Jason Vargas ($8,000): Vargas does not have good career numbers against the White Sox, but Chicago has struggled on offense in the early going. The have scored two runs or less in six of the last 11 games. Meanwhile, Vargas has been nothing short of brilliant so far. He is 3-0 with a 0.44 ERA, 0.77 WHIP, and has 23 strikeouts in only 20.2 innings pitched. I will roll with the hot hand here.

C: Buster Posey ($3,900): Posey is 6-22(.273) with three walks, three doubles, a homer, two RBI and six runs scored against Hyu-Jin Ryu.

1B: Adrian Gonzalez ($3,600): Gonzalez is 22-78(.282) with ten walks, five doubles, a triple, four homers, ten runs scored, and an impressive 14 RBI in his career against Matt Cain. I definitely want exposure to the Dodgers in this one. They are hitting .297 and have a .399 wOBA in 145 at bats against Cain.

2B: Javier Baez ($3,800): Baez is 2-5 with a double, a homer, two runs scored, and four RBI already against Chad Kuhl. Make sure that Baez is in the lineup before deploying, but he is a good bet if he gets the start.

3B: Manny Machado ($4,900): Machado is 10-32(.312) with three walks, a double, a homer, five runs scored, and three RBI against Chris Archer. There is strikeout potential here, but The O’s are hitting .274 with seven homers against Archer in their careers. There are better options than Archer.

SS: Andrelton Simmons ($3,100): Simmons only has two hits in nine at bats against Francisco Liriano, but he has two walks, two runs, two steals and a RBI. He is off to a hot start at the plate, hitting .294 with three homers and seven driven in so far. He has always been a great defender, but now it looks as though his offense is coming around.

OF: Yasiel Puig ($3,600): Puig is 5-15 with a walk, two doubles, a homer, two runs scored, a steal, and two RBI off of Matt Cain in his career. Puig is getting consistent playing time, and is showing flashes of being the player the Dodgers thing he can be. Can he keep it up?

OF: Charlie Blackmon ($5,500): Oh man, is that really Jacob Turner starting a game at Coors Field? Really? I will throw the Rockies’ leadoff hitter at it and see what sticks. I will also do a $1 stack of this game and see what kind of pitching I get. Look for that one on Twitter later on.

OF: Hunter Pence ($3,900): Pence is 10-22(.455) with two walks, two doubles, and seven RBI agianst Hyun-Jin Ryu. Ryu is off to a slow start, and he gets hit hard by righties. Every San Francisco right handed hitter is in play here.
