DraftKings MLB Picks For April 28

We haveĀ a full 15Ā games for our main DraftKings tournament tonight. There are a lot of great pitching matchups by the numbers tonight. Who can help us win some cash? Where are the best stack options? Who has the best past stats? Let’s do some digging!

More from DFS

The money line was down a ways toĀ 106.85 DraftKings points. It was lower because of the small late slate, and the dearth of offense. You needed Masahiro Tanaka and Taijuan Walker to win big. I missed out on the money because I didn’t have either of them, and the hitters were all cold with the exception of Goldschmidt.

The winning lineup wasĀ also down at 185.45. Of course, he had Tanaka and Walker, but he really hit with Chris Owings, Yasmany Tomas, and Dexter Fowler.

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

DraftKings
Apr 23, 2017; New York City, NY, USA; Washington Nationals starting pitcher Max Scherzer (31) pitches during the first inning against the New York Mets at Citi Field. Mandatory Credit: Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports

P: Max Scherzer ($12,700):Ā Scherzer has held the Mets to a .232 average in 207 at bats, but he has taken his lumps. The Mets have hit 11 homers off of him, three by Michael Conforto alone! However, his enormous strikeout potential will help recoup any points he loses from runs given up. The Mets have only scored more than three runs once in the last five games. Without Yoenis Cespedes as well, they are going to struggle for offense in this one.

P: Charlie Morton ($6,900): The current A’s are just 4-26(.154) against Charlie Morton in their careers with zero runs scored. The A’s don’t really have much for power there, so as long as Morton can keep the ball on the ground, he could have a nice game here. The bad part is that the only owns three strikeouts against them. Jharel Cotton has been equally as good against the Astros, so his chances for a win aren’t great either, but if you want to pay for the top guy, you have to find value somewhere. I’m hoping it’s here.

C: Alex Avila ($2,900):Ā Avila is a modest 4-14 with four walks, a run scored, and two RBI against Mike Pelfrey, but this is more going off of Avila’s current hot streak. And….of Mike Pelfrey. If you are looking to pivot off the Orioles stack, stacking Tigers against their former teammate is a great idea. They are hitting .284 against Pelfrey in their careers.

1B: Jose Abreu ($4,000):Ā Jose Abreu left Wednesday’s game with a hip flexor strain, but he says he will be back tonight. The team has yet to make anything official. If Abreu sits, I am stacking more Orioles, moving to Welington Castillo at catcher and Trey Mancini at this position. However, if Abreu is in, I want him! He is 6-12 with two homers and four RBI off of Matt Boyd in his career.

2B: Joe Panik ($3,500): Panik is 4-7 with three doubles, four runs scored, and two RBI against Luis Perdomo. The Giants are hitting a ridiculous .372 against Perdomo in 43 at bats. It’s a small sample size, but Perdomo hasn’t really been able to handle anyone. If you are a stacker looking for an alternative to Arizona, the Giants could be it.

3B: Manny Machado ($4,700):Ā Machado has hit CC Sabathia well. He is 14-45(.311) with three walks, five doubles, a homer, five runs scored, and seven RBI against him so far. The Orioles as a whole have roughed up Sabathia. They are hitting .271 with nine homers and 45 RBI in 306 at bats. That’s why I’m stacking Orioles, and if I had the money, I would throw Welington Castillo out there too.

SS: J.J. Hardy ($3,000):Ā Hardy could be a huge bargain tonight. He is 14-43(.326) with two walks, five doubles, a homer, three runs scored, and nine RBI against Sabathia. Hardy could be a great way to save money, and since we paid for Scherzer in this matchup, we need to save somewhere.

OF: Adam Jones ($4,100):Ā Jones has assaulted CC Sabathia in his career. Jones is 22-73(.301) with four walks, four doubles, a triple, five homers, 13 runs scored, 15 RBI, and even two steals! He likely wont steal many bases anymore, but you can’t deny what Jones, and the Orioles as a whole, have done to Sabathia.

OF: Stephen Piscotty ($4,100): Piscotty has only faced Tim Adelman four times, but he has come away with a double and a triple. He ended up scoring both times. Adleman has pitched pretty well I his first two starts of the year, but I’m not sure how much I trust that. I will go ahead and take a shot against him with Piscotty.

OF: Kole Calhoun ($4,000): Calhoun is 8-14(.571) with a walk, two doubles, a homer, three runs scored, and three RBI off of Nick Martinez in his career. Calhoun is off to a bit of a slow start, but this could get him going. If C.J. Cron is in the lineup, he may be worth a go as well. Cron is 6-12 with two solo homers off of Martinez, but he hasn’t started in three games due to his struggles at the plate.

DraftKings
Apr 16, 2017; Cleveland, OH, USA; Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco (59) delivers in the first inning against the Detroit Tigers at Progressive Field. Mandatory Credit: David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

P: Carlos Carrasco ($10,200):Ā Carrasco has held the Mariners to a .237 average in 59 at bats with two homers and five runs. Those are average numbers, but his 16 strikeouts in that span are not. Both he and Scherzer have great strikeout potential tonight. I am going to roll with one of each just in case the other gets knocked around a little.

P: Adam Conley ($6,300):Ā Conley has only faced the Pirates once, and he dominated them. The current team went just 2-12 in that game with no runs and four strikeouts. After a dismal spring, Conley has gone 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in three starts. He also has racked up 14 strikeouts in 18 innings. He looks like a great cheap play tonight, especially when you consider how lost the Pirates have looked without Starling Marte.

C: James McCann ($2,800):Ā James McCann, meet tomato can, Mike Pelfrey. McCann has singled in two at bats against Pelfrey in his career. He is as good a bet as anyone to pick up a hit or three tonight.

1B: Paul Goldschmidt ($5,100): Goldie crushes lefties. He has a .332 career average against southpaws with 42 home runs in 702 career at bats. Kyle Freeland has only really struggled against the Padres, but he hasn’t faced an offense like this in his young career. Dominating the Giants and Dodgers on the road are one thing. Arizona could hit him hard, and it all starts with Goldschmidt.

2B: Robinson Cano ($4,500):Ā Cano is 6-14(.429) with a walk, two doubles, a homer, and four RBI against Carlos Carrasco. He is about the only Mariner that has been able to hit Carrasco in his career, and I like his chances again. He owns a .527 wOBA off of Carrasco.

3B: Nolan Arenado ($5,000): Everyone else is stacking Arizona, but I’m going with a Colorado mini-stack here. Arenado is 6-18 with two walks, a double, a triple, a homer, five RBI, and three runs scored against Robbie Ray. The Rockies are hitting .362 with a .440 wOBA in 94 at bats against Ray with a ridiculous 20 runs scored. This could be another high scoring game regardless of where it’s played.

SS: Elvis Andrus ($4,000): Andrus is 5-10 with three walks, a double, a solo homer, four runs scored, and a steal against Tyler Skaggs in his career. Andrus is faring better at the plate than he has earlier in his career due to some changes he has made in his stance. It seems to be paying dividends so far as Elvis has left the building three times already this year. Could he make it four tonight?

OF: Charlie Blackmon ($5,000): I realize that Blackmon is a lefty facing a lefty, but he hasn’t had any trouble with Robbie Ray so far. Blackmon is a stellar 11-19(.579) with two walks, a triple, two homers, six RBI, eight runs scored, and three stolen bases in his career against Ray. I will splurge for him here. It’s not like Chase Field is a pitcher’s paradise.

OF: Yasmany Tomas ($4,000):Ā Tomas is hitting well right now anyway. When you add in the fact that he is facing an inexperienced lefty, this could be a good night for Tomas. I like the right handed Arizona power tonight.

OF: Avisail Garcia ($3,100):Ā Garcia is 4-10 with a homer, three runs scored, and two RBI against Matt Boyd. This will likely be a high scoring game because of this pitching matchup, but Boyd should are better than his mound opponent. That doesn’t mean that he isn’t going to give up some runs though.
