The Oilers captain tied the game with a filthy goal in the second period.

Connor McDavid reminded Edmonton Oilers fans why their future is so bright on Sunday by scoring a very pretty goal to tie the game against the Anaheim Ducks. The Oilers, up 2-0 in their second-round playoff series, went down 3-0 early in the game, but they fought back in the second period.

McDavid picked up the puck along the boards and deked Anaheim defenseman Sami Vatanen out of his jock before firing it into the far corner of the net behind John Gibson. The unassisted snipe completed Edmonton’s three-goal comeback, bringing them back into a game many fans thought was over.

Sports Illustrated has the highlight, which is very much worth the watch. McDavid is budding into one of the best players in the NHL, and this move is a really good example of why:

Unfortunately for the Oilers, the tied game didn’t last long, as the Ducks’ Chris Wagner responded less than a minute later to restore his team’s lead. Anaheim went into the dressing room after 40 minutes up 4-3, but far less comfortable than they were after the first period. The Ducks continued scoring in the third period as well, adding twice to their lead to make it 6-3 in the last ten minutes.

The goal was McDavid’s third of the playoffs, and sixth point. The young phenom led the Oilers this season to their first postseason berth since 2006, with 100 points in his sophomore year to lead the NHL.

McDavid and the Oilers are hoping to win this game and take a 3-0 series lead, after surprisingly winning the first two games in Anaheim. The Ducks, meanwhile, look to get back into it by cutting Edmonton’s lead to just one game.
