DraftKingsĀ Main MLB Picks For May 4

We are left with only five of the 13 games for the main DraftKings tournament. There are a few pitchers worth stacking against tonight, so where can we find some bargains to employ such a stack? Let’s check out some stats!

More from DFS

The money line was around the same as it was on Tuesday at 115.75 DraftKings points. My Pirates stack didn’t work out so well, and neither did the Boston one. Yes, I was disappointed when Kevin Gausman was wrongfully tossed in the second inning.

The winning lineup was all the way up to 211.6, which was a full 13 DraftKings points better than second place! He had the solid performances of Jake Arrieta and Charlie Morton, but it was the hitters that carried him. No one has less than 13 DraftKings points, and he was one of the proud 1.2% that gambled on Kennys Vargas.

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

P: Dan Straily ($9,600):Ā The current Rays are 4-14(.286) with one run and five strikeouts in their careers against Straily. There is some risk involved here since the Rays hit right handed pitching pretty well, but they still strike out more than any other team in the league. Straily has 29 strikeouts in 22.2 innings pitched over his last four starts. That’s what I’m chasing tonight on a slate with no clear cut great options.

P: Chase Anderson ($6,100):Ā Anderson locked down the Cardinals back on April 22nd, allowing just one run in six innings en route to 20.7 DraftKings points. Anderson has allowed just one home run all season, that was in his first start against Colorado. The Cardinal lineup hasn’t been striking fear into opposing pitchers lately. I’m banking on Anderson to duplicate his past success against the Cards earlier this year.

C: Caleb Joseph ($2,800):Ā Joseph is a good hitter. He proved that last year when Matt Wieters was out. Now he gets a chance to start for a couple of weeks with Welington Castillo on the shelf. I like him to hit a couple off the monster with Phillie castoff Kyle Kendrick on the Fenway mound.

1B: Freddie Freeman ($5,200):Ā Freeman is 7-14 with nine walks, two doubles, a homer, three runs scored, and five RBI in his career against Zack Wheeler. Wheeler is still trying to get a feel for pitching in the majors again. Freeman wont help his cause any.

2B: Dustin Pedroia ($4,300):Ā Pedroia is 12-35(.343) with four walks, two doubles, an impressive eight runs scored, and four RBI against Ubaldo Jimenez. What may be the biggest oxymoron in baseball, the current Boston lineup has not hit a home run in 185 at bats against Ubaldo! That is changing tonight. I’m stacking Red Sox again since they are hitting .286 against Jimenez.

3B: Yunel Escobar ($3,000):Ā Escobar is 2-7 with two walks and two runs scored against Angel Miranda. Miranda issues a lot of free passes, and has to perform many magical acts that would make Harry Houdini jealous to get out of those jams. It will catch up to him at some point. Will it be tonight?

SS: Xander Bogaerts ($5,000):Ā Bogaerts is 8-22(.364) with four walks, a double, three runs scored, and six RBI against Ubaldo. David Ortiz really punished Jimenez. Who takes over for Papi? I’ve got four chances at his successor!

OF: Mike Trout ($5,400):Ā Trout is only 1-4 in his career against Angel Miranda, but that one hit is a grand slam and he has walked four times. Angels right handers are in play against Miranda tonight. Trout should be worth paying up for.

OF: Mookie Betts ($5,300):Ā Mookie is 9-22(.409) with three walks, a double, four runs scored, two steals, and a RBI against Jimenez. He is not getting a zero tonight, that’s all I know.

OF: Ben Gamel ($3,000):Ā Gamel is getting plenty of chances with Mitch Haniger on the disabled list. He is doing pretty well with it so far. Gamel is 7-27 with a homer, three RBI, four walks, and six runs scored. I like his chances against Alex Meyer.
