The ongoing saga between the New York Mets and Matt Harvey continues to unravel with more details emerging every day.

Another day, another missing detail found in the case of the missing Matt Harvey. The New York Mets starting pitcher was suspended for missing a game on Saturday and now we may know the cause of Harvey’s disappearance.

Based on the information given to Emily Smith and David K. Li of PageSix.com, Harvey was out until 4 a.m. the previous night, celebrating Cinco de Mayo.

"Harvey — who makes $5.1 million and is 2-2 with a 5.14 ERA this season — rolled up on the velvet rope club “with his boys” at about 1 a.m. and settled into a private table, the sources said. The star pitcher threw back a triple play of top-shelf booze, including Armand de Brignac “Ace of Spades” Champagne, Don Julio 1942 tequila and Belvedere vodka, witnesses said."

Harvey wasn’t expected to pitch in Saturday’s game against the Miami Marlins but all Mets players were expected to be in attendance. After missing a phone call from Mets pitching coach Dan Warthen, Harvey reportedly texted Warthen back to say he had migraines and wasn’t going to make it to Citi Field. This was after Harvey went out golfing earlier in the day. Depending on who is telling the story, Harvey either initiated the conversation or responded to the Mets reaching out to him. Either way, the Mets were unaware that Harvey wasn’t going to make it until well after players were expected to be in the ballpark.

Jon Heyman from FanRag reported the team sent some security people over to Harvey’s residence at around 10 p.m. As Heyman explains, the Mets sending personnel over weren’t there to make sure was okay but rather to make sure his story was checking out. This isn’t the first time the Mets and Harvey have clashed for off-the-field concerns. Back in 2015, Harvey missed a team workout after stating that he was stuck in traffic.

It’s believed Harvey will file a grievance against the Mets for the suspension which is sure to add more fuel to this fire. He’s currently scheduled to pitch on Friday against the Milwaukee Brewers (in Milwaukee). For a man known as “The Dark Knight,” it’s quite a fall from grace for Harvey with both the Mets and their fans. Injuries have certainly played their part in Harvey’s recent lowered level of play but off-the-field issues have been a continuous topic of discussion during his time in New York. The possibility of Harvey playing in another uniform next year is very high but it looks like the split won’t be an amicable one.
