DraftKings Early MLB Picks For May 10
This is a weird Wednesday with two teams, the Yankees and Reds, getting a day off. Five of the 14 games are in the early DraftKings tournament today. The pitching is thin, so let’s try to figure out who will hurt our team the least.

The money line last night was back up to 122.75. My Nationals stack lineup didn’t do well, but the other two lineups both placed. The Yankees stack was on the cut line at 122.75. The A’s stack with Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander was comfortably in at 131.90.
The winning lineup was up to 223.6 DraftKings points. He gambled on Hector Santiago with Scherzer like I was going to. His Phillies/Mariners stack with a side of Mookie Betts won him the grand prize.
NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

P: Andrew Triggs ($8,500): As luck would have it, the only two pitchers that have held this afternoon’s opponents under a .280 average are facing each other. They are also the most expensive pitchers on the slate, are facing weak offense, and are in a pitcher’s park. That’s enough for me to get over them facing each other. Triggs has held the current Angels to a .242 average in 33 at bats with just one homer and two runs. Mike Trout has the homer, and he may not even be in the lineup. Triggs wont wow you with strikeouts, but he isn’t going to give up much either.
P: Jesse Chavez ($8,300): Chavez has held his former team to a .171 average in 35 at bats with just one extra base hit, one run, and a solid seven strikeouts. I expect a pitcher’s duel by the bay today, which is likely the only afternoon tilt that will be.
C: Miguel Montero ($4,200): Montero played seven innings in the first game of the doubleheader yesterday, so he should be good to go here against righty German Marquez. Marquez has a 7.31 ERA in three starts. Only one of those came at Coors Field. Stacking Cubs is a great play this afternoon, but you wont be alone in doing so.
1B: Mike Morse ($2,300): Morse is 3-7 with two walks, two doubles, a homer, three runs scored, and a RBI in his career against Tommy Milone. Morse provides much needed salary relief if he cracks the starting lineup, and you can stuff him in the outfield so you can still use Anthony Rizzo or Freddie Freeman. If Morse is out, and maybe even if he isn’t, I may make the move to Yonder Alonso. He is on fire right now!
2B: Robinson Cano ($4,700): Neil Walker ($3,500): Cano left last night’s game with a strained quad, so he likely is out today. I will move to Walker against Matt Cain, who has been hit hard by lefties, especially this year.
3B: Alex Bregman ($4,100): Bregman has two hits in three tries against Jaime Garcia with a homer and two driven in. All Astros righties are in play this afternoon against Garcia. Right handers have slugged 68 home runs off of Garcia in 2,804 career at bats.
SS: Jose Reyes ($3,900): Reyes is finally starting to show signs of life at the plate. He should here at well. He has lit up Matt Cain in his career. Reyes is 10-22(.455) with four walks, two doubles, two triples, a homer, eight runs scored, four RBI, and three stolen bases. Reyes could pick up some pretty large numbers today!
OF: Kyle Schwarber ($4,900): Schwarber sat out the nighcap against lefty Kyle Freeland, so he should be back leading off against the struggling German Marquez. The Cubs aren’t going to help his bloated ERA any, but that ERA may not be indicative of what Marquez will be. His first four starts were against the Nationals, Diamondbacks twice, and now that Cubs. That’s a whole lot of offense!
OF: Carlos Gonzalez ($4,600): CarGo is 5-14(.357) with a walk, two doubles, a homer, two runs scored, and three RBI in his career against Kyle Hendricks. If you are paying for a Coors stack, Ian Desmond, DJ LeMahieu, and Charlie Blackmon have also hit Hendricks well. Just be aware that this game is threatened by rain once again. If it is cancelled early, there’s no worries. However, if it happens closer to game time, the options to replace players from this game are only from the Angels-A’s game.
OF: Michael Conforto ($4,200): Conforto has been leading off lately for the banged up Mets, which leaves him in a good spot against Matt Cain. The Mets are hitting .357 in 84 at bats against Cain. Conforto is perfect with a single, double, homer, two runs scored, and three RBI against Cain. Expect more of the same today.
