Drake Caggiula used some extra force to get the scoring started early in the first period in Game 7 for the Edmonton Oilers.

In a crucial Game 7, the Edmonton Oilers busted things open early with a forceful goal from Drake Caggiula in the first period.

Caggiula made an impressive individual effort against both an Anaheim Ducks defenseman and Ducks goalie John Gibson, and somehow got the puck to slowly squeeze by Gibson.

After tipping an attempted clear from Shea Theodore, Caggiula proceeded to deck Theodore and Gibson into the net to make sure his poke made it into the net. Gibson had almost nothing he could do in the situation without the check, let alone getting pushed back by his own teammate.

Caggiula, just a 22-year-old rookie, only had one goal in the series before Game 7, and hadn’t contributed at all to Edmonton’s scoring before the conference semifinals began. In 60 games in the regular season, he tallied seven total goals and 11 assists.

The Ducks and Oilers have gone back and forth in this Western Conference semifinals matchup, and provided an instant classic in Game 5. The Ducks pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in postseason history, scoring three goals in the final three minutes to tie the game and beat the Oilers in double overtime.

The Oilers have been on fire ever since, and managed to win 7-1 at home on Sunday to make sure they could send their home fans happy, in case it was the last time they saw each other until October.

Oilers fans should be happy with the production they’re getting from such a young roster, lead by 20-year old captain Connor McDavid. Leon Draisaitl, a 21-year-old Oilers forward, has also had quite the series with three goals and two assists in Game 6 alone, and six goals in the postseason total.
