Joel Embiid was every fan’s spirit animal during NBA Draft Lottery
Joel Embiid represented the Philadelphia 76ers at the NBA Draft Lottery last night. He also represented the deepest desires of every human being.
For many teams, the NBA Draft Lottery can tend to be a pressure filled time. With the determination of each pick, the immediate futures of franchises in need of serious help to right the ship hang in the balance on a night like this.
But despite representing a team that missed the postseason for the fifth straight season, Joel Embiid was just there to have a good time, and it showed.
On a night that begins to lay out the journeys of many of the league’s most prized up and coming prospects, Embiid’s inclusion was a perfect fit. The 23-year old represents everything that is good and golden about today’s NBA. With traces of dominant tendencies, he has all the potential in the world. From his amusing tweets to animated dance moves on the hardwood, the soft-spoken, Shirley Temple drinking Embiid has already embarked on quite the big league adventure and simply enjoys taking fans along for the ride. Tuesday night was no different.
It started with his outfit. In the Big Apple, Walt “Clyde” Frazier is known for his flashy suites and radical style. With Embiid in the building, Clyde’s classic cool had some competition from a more modern-day dresser. The big man came in rocking a hot pink blazer, but he didn’t stop there.
When it came to the actual draft lottery’s outcome, there were many questions regarding Philadelphia’s placement. Would the team ultimately opt to swap picks with Sacramento? Would the Lakers’ pick creep up into the top three, allowing Magic Johnson and Co. to hold on to their selection for yet another year? Previous trades and respective stipulations galore, there was a lot for the casual NBA fan to follow. Even Embiid himself looked a little confused.
The night didn’t end poorly for the 76ers, as the organization secured the third overall pick when it was all said and done. But with Los Angeles moving up to number two overall, Philadelphia must officially wait one more season to recoup its previous trade winnings. Upon hearing the news, Embiid completed his night of serving as every NBA fan’s spirit animal with one side-eyed look of shade.
The legend of Embiid lives on to trust the process another day.

With the third pick the 76ers better make sure they can get a player who can keep a straight face next to Embiid.
