AS Monaco win Ligue 1 for first time since 2000
AS Monaco have knocked Paris Saint-Germain off their perch atop the Ligue 1 table and have captured their first league title in 17 years.
AS Monaco have captured their first Ligue 1 title since 2000 in fantastic fashion. They locked up their first title in 17 years with a 2-0 win over 6th place St-Etienne. This put them six points clear of PSG, with just one match remaining.
Monaco has had a fantastic season across all competitions this year, making it to the semifinals in the UEFA Champions League as well.
Despite losing out on their chance to do a domestic and European double, this is truly a historic season for the club.

AS Monaco has benefited from the fantastic play of wonderkid Kylian Mbappe this season, along with the revitalized play of striker Radamel Falcao. Mbappe has 15 goals and eight assists over 28 appearances in Ligue 1 this season, with only 16 of them coming when he was in the starting 11. Falcao also had an impressive season, with 21 goals over 28 appearances in Ligue 1.
AS Monaco has proven to be a very potent attacking side, scoring an amazing 104 goals over 37 games in the league this season. This comes as no surprise, as Monaco has taken an average of 14.4 shots per game this season, third in the league, with an average of 6.3 shots on target per game, good for first in Ligue 1.

To add to their potent offense, they had a very staunch defense in the free-flowing Ligue 1. AS Monaco allowed the second least shots per game (9.5), and have given up the second least goals in the league as well (29).
This defensive staunchness is due to the stellar play of Fabinho, Djibril Sidibe, Tiemoue Bakayoke and several others. It also doesn’t hurt when you can rely on the likes of Danijel Subasic in net to keep you clean sheets intact.
