Celtics rule out Isaiah Thomas for remainder of the playoffs

Boston Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas has been ruled out for the rest of the playoffs.
After getting blown out in the first two games of the Eastern Conference Finals, the Boston Celtics didn’t need any more bad news. Point guard Isaiah Thomas re-aggravated a hip injury that he suffered way back on March 15 against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Then, in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals, Thomas suffered what doctors called a right femoral-acetabular impingement with a labral tear.
This injury has ruled Thomas out for the remainder of the postseason, effectively ending the Boston’s year.
"“Isaiah has worked tirelessly to manage this injury since it first occurred,” said Celtics Chief Medical Officer Dr. Brian McKeon. “The swelling increased during the first two games against Cleveland, and in order to avoid more significant long-term damage to his hip, we could no longer allow him to continue.”"

Thomas, 27, was a big reason for Boston’s success this season. The 5-foot-9 point guard led the Celtics to 53 wins and the first seed in the Eastern Conference on the heels of 28.9 points per game this regular season. This was the first time since 2012 that Boston returned to the Conference Finals which is a good sign that this rebuild upstarted by Isaiah Thomas, is moving in the right direction.
The Celtics postseason journey looked all but over even prior to the injury news to their star point guard. The Cavs embarrassed the Celtics on their home court which included a 56 point win in game two, which resulted in the biggest margin of victory ever in a Conference Finals Game. It looks like Boston will likely get swept setting up a third straight Warriors Vs. Cavaliers Finals matchup.
Heading into Game 3, Marcus Smart and Terry Rozier will get extended minutes at point guard. While the series is likely over, their performances could be crucial to determining which guard is expendable as Boston is expected to draft point guard Markelle Fultz with the number one overall pick this summer.
