DraftKings Main MLB Picks For May 21

The last five games are in the evening slate on DraftKings. There are a few good pitchers going tonight, but do the stats say so? Should we stack a lesser offense, or just roll with a patchwork offense? Let’s check some stats!

More from DFS

I did not get a late lineup in yesterday due to Graduation festivities. It looked to be an interesting night. I am throwing my hat back in the ring tonight!

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

DraftKings
May 10, 2017; Phoenix, AZ, USA; Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Zack Godley (52) pitches against the Detroit Tigers during the second inning at Chase Field. Mandatory Credit: Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

P: Eduardo Rodriguez ($9,100):Ā How’s this for a past stat: The current Oakland Athletics roster is 0-23 lifetime with with eight strikeouts. They don’t even have a walk against him! This kind of dominance is not sustainable, but it does show what Rodriguez is capable of today. Yu Darvish has been good against the Tigers, but I am going to take the chance on Rodriguez being great against the A’s because I want to pay for an Arizona stack.

P: Zack Godley ($7,800):Ā Godley faced the Padres in Arizona for his first major league start back on April 26th. It was also his worst start to date. He still picked u[p 15.1 DraftKings points in that game. He is way underpriced pitching at Petco Park. He has been outstanding in his first three starts. That shouldn’t change here.

C: Christian Vazquez ($2,600):Ā I want to go with Robinson Chirinos, who has homered twice off of Matt Boyd in four at bats, but that is the night game. Which means that if Jonathan Lucroy starts, I wouldn’t have the money to switch to Lucroy and would just have to go without a catcher. So I will err on the side of caution and stick with Vasquez, who is hitting .309 on the season. That looks like good production for this price.

1B: Paul Goldschmidt ($5,500):Ā It is worth paying up for Goldschmidt today! He is 8-21(.381) with eight walks, eight hits, a homer, five runs scored, and five RBI so far against Clayton Richard. Arizona has destroyed Richard in his career, hitting .370 with three homers and 16 RBI in just 92 at bats. This will be a highly played stack, but I don’t care. I will get my separation in pitching.

2B: Chris Taylor ($3,700):Ā Chris Taylor has never faced Vance Worley, but Taylor is hitting .375 in May and has not had a scoreless outing in almost three weeks. He is a solid play in any lineup until he cools off.

3B: Matt Davidson ($3,200):Ā Chris Heston gave up two homers and five runs in just two innings in his only appearance this season in a 19-9 loss to the Tigers on April 25th. The White Sox don’t have as prolific of an offense as Detroit, but there is still some power here. One of those sources is Davidson, who looks really cheap at this price and could get a few good rips on Heston.

SS: Chris Owings ($4,500):Ā Owings is 5-11(.455) with a triple, a steal, two runs scored, and four RBI agianst Richard. He is batting cleanup today, and there should be plenty of people to clean up! Look for a solid outing from Owings.

OF: Nelson Cruz ($5,000):Ā Cruz has punished Derek Holland in his career. He is only 5-20, but he has two walks, two homers, six runs scored, and four RBI against him. Kyle Seager is the other Mariner to think about today as he has also slugged two homers against Holland, though neither has hit for a very good average.

OF: Yasmany Tomas ($4,400):Ā Tomas is also 5-11 against Richard with two walks, a homer, two runs scored, and three RBI. He will be right behind Owings today, so I like stacking the meat of the Diamondbacks order here.

OF: Avisail Garcia ($4,200):Ā Garcia is in the cleanup slot today against Heston, which means he should get at least two at bats worth of good production. I don’t expect Heston to pitch well or last very long, but Garcia should be able to do some damage before Heston exits.
