DraftKings Main MLB Picks For May 25

We haveĀ five eveningĀ games for theĀ main DraftKings tournament. There are a couple of high priced pitchers here, but are they worth using? Should we use Maeda in his return from the disabled list? Let’s check out some stats to find out!

More from DFS

The money line forĀ yesterday evening was 112.75. My Red Sox stack was misguided and one other was ruined by Jeremy Hellickson, who was ruined by the Rockies. My other lineup made up for it with 144.6 DraftKings points. That got me into the top 900! It was on the shoulders of Luis Severino, Mike Leake, and Adam Frazier.

The winning lineup rebounded to a solid 194.05 score. He used Tyler Chatwood along with Sale instead of Hellickson. He also stacked Pirates and Rockies, which was a great idea. This lineup even survived a goose egg from Josh Bell to take down the prize!

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

DraftKings
May 8, 2017; New York City, NY, USA; New York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (48) pitches against the San Francisco Giants during the first inning at Citi Field. Mandatory Credit: Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports

P:Ā Jacob deGromĀ ($12,100): Yes, deGrom is expensive, but he just might be worth it. First of all, his opposing starter, Dinelson Lamet, is making his major league debut. On top of that, the Padres are hitting just .125 in 32 at bats against deGrom with two solo homers the only damage done. The eight strikeouts put the Padres fanning at a 25% rate. These are the kind of elite numbers you want from a pitcher at this price.

P:Ā RobbieĀ RayĀ ($8,600): Robbie Ray has only faced the current Brewers eight times. He has allowed two hits, both to the same guy (more on that later). We all know that Ray carries enormous strikeout potential, but there is another reason I view him as underpriced tonight. Milwaukee is full of left-handed power that doesn’t hit lefties well. Miller Park also caters a lot more to lefty power than righties. Now the kicker: Ray’s 3.91 ERA is very average, but he boasts a brilliant 1.03Ā ERA in four road starts. RayĀ has the potential for a huge game for his price point tonight.

C: Yadier Molina ($2,800): It seems ridiculous to me that a guy riding a 13 game hitting streak is priced this low. He has never faced Kenta Maeda before in his career, but Maeda is making his first start off the DL. Molina has a great chance to extend the streak tonight.

1B:Ā Hanley RamirezĀ ($4,500): Hanley is the one that Nick Martinezā€˜s mother warned him about. Ramirez is 4-6 with three walks, two doubles, two homers, four runs scored, and four RBI against Martinez already. If you are betting on someone to have a good night, Hanley is one of the safer bets.

2B:Ā Neil WalkerĀ ($3,400): There isn’t much to go on here except for the fact that the Mets are facing a right handed rookie pitcher. Walker has hit all four of his home runs this year against right handed pitchers. I will take my chances that he touches up the rookie for this price.

3B: Hernan Perez ($3,600): Remember that guy that has both hits off of Robbie Ray? Meet Hernan Perez, who is 2-3 with a homer, two runs scored, two RBI, and has even swiped two bases against Ray. For these kind of stats, I will pit a batter against one of my pitchers. I still see Ray doing well enough against Perez’s teammates to make him worth while.

SS:Ā Jose ReyesĀ ($3,900): Reyes is heating up right now. He has 42 DraftKings points in his last four starts, and will be facing a rookie righthander in Dinelson Lamet. His batting average is 27 points higher from the left side so far this year. Reyes looks like a good option tonight.

OF:Ā J.D. MartinezĀ ($4,600): Martinez is 4-9 with a double and a solo homer against Mike Fiers. He has slowed down a little bit since coming off the DL scorching hot earlier this month, but it’s not like he is slumping either. His average still sits at .364, and he has already homered six times.

OF:Ā George SpringerĀ ($3,700): It’s always a risk using hitters against a guy like Justin Verlander. He is one of those pitchers that has a chance at pitching a shutout every time he takes the mound. However, considering Springer is 5-10 with a homer, two runs scored, and two RBI against Verlander, I doubt that happens tonight. I am just going to sit back and enjoy the depressed price on Springer for one night.

OF:Ā Tyler CollinsĀ ($2,700): Collins is mired in a pretty bad slump right now, but he has three hits andĀ a walk in six career plate appearances against Fiers. I will take my chances at this price that Collins breaks out of his slump tonight. He seems like aĀ bargain at this price.
