DraftKings Main MLB Picks For May 29

We only have four games in the main DraftKings tournament today, but it’s Kershaw day! Is he worth paying for? Where can we go cheap to afford him? Let’s check out some stats for this abbreviated slate!

More from DFS

The money line in the main tournament yesterday was way down at 90.75. I reached the money with a somewhat disappointing score of 98.65. Thankfully, more than half of the entrants were hurt by Clayton Kershaw‘s poor day as well while fewer than a quarter owned Matt Harvey. The bargain picks of Kike Hernandez and Gerardo Parra paid off as well.

The winning lineup was only at 175 DraftKings points. Johnny Cueto‘s big day propelled him, along with a cheaper Anthony Rizzo.

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

P: Marcus Stroman ($9,800): The Reds are kind of an all-or-nothing offense, and surprisingly, Toronto marks a downgrade in parks for the Reds offense. Stroman has really only had two bad starts this year, against New York and against Boston. The Reds are neither the Yankees nor the Red Sox. Stroman is a strong bet on this slate.

P: Julio Teheran ($8,900): Teheran’s struggles this season have been mostly because of his inability to get left handers out. Thankfully for him, the Angels don’t have much for left handed power. The current team is only hitting .227 against Teheran with a home and five runs in 66 at bats. He has also racked up 14 strikeouts. I like Teheran in a lineup that is short on lefties.

C: Alex Avila ($3,400): Avila is cooling off, but that may be delayed considering he is facing Jason Hammel. Avila only has one hit in four at bats against Hammel, but it is a two run homer. He has also walked twice and scored twice.

1B: Justin Bour ($4,800): Yes, Bour is only 2-16 against Jeremy Hellickson, but one of those hits is a home run. Bour is on some kind of tear right now, and the Rockies just destroyed Hellickson in his last start. I am taking a chance that it isn’t a fluke.

2B: Dee Gordon ($4,400): Gordon is 5-14 with a run scored and two steals against Hellickson. I like having a leadoff hitter with great speed against this team. Gordon should still be a solid value even if Hellickson pitches well due to his game-changing speed.

3B: Evan Longoria ($3,700): Longoria is 6-12 with three doubles, a homer, two runs scored, and five RBI in his career against Martin Perez. The Rays are far and away the best stack of the night slate if you are stacking hitters. The only thing is that the Rays have a lot more from the left side than the right.

SS: Alcides Escobar ($2,400): Escobar is 4-9 with a walk, a homer, two runs scored, and three RBI in his career against Daniel Norris. Escobar should be at or near the top of the lineup, and with this kind of history at this price, there is no reason not to take a shot here!

OF: Jose Bautista ($5,000): Lisalverto Bonilla has struggled in the early going this year. He has a 6.17 ERA. That’s why I want the Blue Jay with the most power. However, stacking Toronto bats is another great stack if you are comfortable with going cheap on pitching. I’m not sure I am on this abbreviated slate.

OF: Matt Kemp ($4,000): Kemp is 4-11 with three runs scored and a solo homer in his career against Ricky Nolasco. Kemp has had a great season in Atlanta, and it isn’t all because of SunTrust Park. He should have a good night against Nolasco even with the park downgrade.

OF: Justin Upton ($3,600): Upton is only 8-35(.229) with two walks, two doubles, two homers, five runs scored, and eight RBI in his career against Jason Hammel. He looks underpriced tonight in what could be a good night for the Tigers offense. They are hitting .288 in 73 at bats with five homers and 14 runs against Hammel in their careers.
