DraftKings Main MLB Picks For June 1

The other half of our eight games are in the main DraftKings tournament. There is one ace on the slate, but can we do better at lower prices and work in a Diamondbacks stack? Let’s check out some stats!

More from DFS

The money line in the main tournament yesterday was a respectable 110.75 DraftKings points. My lineup with Max Scherzer and Junior Guerra placed. The one with my Rays stack missed by 0.35 points.

The winning lineup was back over 200 at 202.55. He used the dominant pitching performances of Carlos Martinez and Scherzer with a Rays/Orioles stack to take down the tournament.

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

May 22, 2017; Phoenix, AZ, USA; Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Zack Greinke (21) throws in the fourth inning against the Chicago White Sox at Chase Field. Mandatory Credit: Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Zack Greinke ($12,700): There are a ton of bad options at pitcher on this slate, which makes me want to stack against them. However, I am not willing to roll the dice with anyone but these two pitchers, so I am skimping on offense. Greinke has held the Marlins to a .241 average with two homers and three runs in 83 at bats while striking out 17. If you are a regular reader of this piece, you know that I am a believer in Greinke this year. There is no reason to think he wont dominate in pitcher friendly Marlins Park.

P: Eduardo Rodriguez ($8,900): I almost feel guilty for using Rodriguez at this price. He is 4-1 with a 2.77 ERA and 59 strikeouts in 55.1 innings pitched. He has been marginally worse on the road, but it’s hard to say that a 3.32 ERA is bad by any means. Rodriguez has seven straight quality starts. Considering he has held the Orioles to a .229 average in 109 at bats with two homers, nine runs, and 32 strikeouts, I would say that an eighth straight is likely.

C: Martin Maldonado ($2,800): How are Angels hitters this cheap against Adalberto Mejia? He has a 4.64 ERA on the season, and that has everything to do with his respectable last four starts. He was even worse before that. Enter Maldonado, who is hitting a cool .444 against left handed pitching this year.

1B: Justin Smoak ($4,600): Smoak has destroyed left handed pitching this season, hitting .394 against southpaws. CC Sabathia is a shadow of what he used to be. Smoak is 5-19(.263) with a walk, two homers, three runs scored, and four RBI in his career against Sabathia. I don’ have the money to stack Blue Jays, but if you are willing to take a bottle of Pepto Bismol with a lower tier pitcher to stack, more power to you.

2B: Brandon Drury ($3,000): Locke is fresh off the disabled list, and while he pitched well in his rehab starts this year, I don’t trust him. Right handed hitters had a .372 wOBA against him last season. I trust that. Drury looks like a bargain tonight. He is 1-3 in his career against Locke. Look for more success tonight.

3B: Josh Rutledge ($2,900): Rutledge is only 3-15 in his career against Wade Miley, but he has a walk, four runs scored, and two RBI. He will be hitting in the lower third of the order which limits his possibilities, but for this price, Rutledge will still do plenty to get to value tonight.

SS: Andrelton Simmons ($3,900): Simmons is leading off against a team that just gave up 40 runs in three games to Houston. Now, we wont be confusing the Angels lineup for Houston anytime soon, especially in the absence of Mike Trout, but the Angels are going to score their fair share in this series. The Twins bullpen is atrocious, so Angels hitters are safe to use over the entire series.

OF: Yasmany Tomas ($3,900): Tomas has only faced Jeff Locke three times. He has come away with a double, a homer, and two RBI in those three at bats. Locke may not be around long enough for Tomas to face him more than twice, but the price is right, and he can do a lot of damage in only a couple of at bats.

OF: Max Kepler ($3,600): Kepler gets to tangle with former teammate Alex Meyer tonight, who is also fresh off a DL stint. No one is denying the potential that Meyer has, but he has yet to show it at the major league level. Kepler could have a very nice night for the price point.

OF: Chris Young ($3,500): Lefty masher Chris Young has been mostly average against Wade Miley. However, 5-12 with two doubles, a run scored and two RBI for this price is nothing to complain about. All Red Sox right handers are in play here if you can afford them.
