The Edmonton Oilers have offers on the table should they choose to trade forward Jordan Eberle.

A year after trading star wing Taylor Hall, the Edmonton Oilers might have to part ways with another first round pick. This time, it’s 2008 first rounder, Jordan Eberle. He had his fourth consecutive 20 goal season in 2016-17, putting up 51 points. However, Eberle’s cap hit is a bit high and might prevent them from making moves.

The Oilers are reportedly open to trading him. And, according to Darren Dreger of TSN, general manager Peter Chiarelli already has offers on the table. This is despite Eberle’s $6 million cap hit in each of the next two seasons.

Edmonton has several options should they choose to trade him. Their first is to trade with the Anaheim Ducks, getting a defenseman in return. Both teams would benefit from this, especially with Andrej Sekera’s injury and Kris Russell’s free agency. Edmonton and Anaheim would both be trading from a position of surplus to address an area of need.

Eberle is coming off a rough postseason, during which he faced a lot of criticism. He had just two points (both assists) in 13 games in the postseason. Eberle had a -6 plus-minus rating with 22 shots on goal in the playoffs. He’s been in trade rumors before, but this time, it feels like he might be on the way out.

Whoever gets him will be getting a pretty consistent goal scorer. If it wasn’t for the 2013 lockout, Eberle would have six straight 20 goal seasons. He had 16 goals in 48 games in 2013. Eberle has at least 50 points in four of his last five seasons, falling short in 2015-16 with 47 points. Changes could be happening in Edmonton for the second straight offseason. This would leave Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Leon Draisaitl as the last remaining first round pick forwards from their previous front office.
