DraftKings Early MLB Picks For June 8

We only have four games in our early DraftKings tournament. It lacks the star power of yesterday’s three game slate, and there is no Coors Stack to be had, but there are still a few good options and a game at Chase Field. We still have plenty of options, but who are the best? Let’s crunch some numbers!

More from DFS

The money line was a solid 117.25 on a short slate. Starting both aces against each other and stacking A’s instead of Rockies paid off. My lineup finished with 164.25 points, and cracked the top 125! We are getting there!

The winning lineup was a solid 199.8. He used Kyle Freeland along with Clayton Kershaw and used the extra money to pay up for Nolan Arenado and Charlie Blackmon, neither of whom were in my lineup. Oh well. I was happy with Trevor Plouffe‘s output!

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

May 22, 2017; Houston, TX, USA; Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Michael Fulmer (32) celebrates getting the third out with men in scoring position against the Houston Astros in the seventh inning at Minute Maid Park. Houston won 1-0. Mandatory Credit: Thomas B. Shea-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Johnny Cueto ($10,800): Paying up for pitchers worked yesterday, so I am going to do so again. 30 year old Paolo Espino will start opposite Cueto, so his chances of a win are superb. Cueto has also held the Brewers to a .235 average in 17 at bats with seven strikeouts. Cueto has a career 3.78 ERA in eight starts at Miller Park. That isn’t great, but it’s far better than the other four options. Cueto looks to be worth paying up for.

P: Michael Fulmer ($9,200): Fulmer looks like even more of a steal this afternoon on a short slate. The Angels are hitting just .186 against him in 43 at bats with just two runs scored and eight strikeouts. Buck Farmer shut down the Angels last night. Now it’s Fulmer’s turn to do the same, though he comes at a higher price.

C: Chris Iannetta ($3,200): Iannetta didn’t start last night, and he has good career stats against Clayton Richard. he is 5-14(.357) with three walks, two doubles, a solo homer, and two runs scored in his career against Richard. If Iannetta starts, I want him in my lineup.

1B: Brandon Belt ($4,300): Miller Park favors lefty power, and the Giants may actually get an upgrade over Matt Garza, if you can believe that. Garza will head to the DL, making way for career minor leaguer Paolo Espino. I am loading up on Giants lefties today!

2B: Andrew Romine ($3,300): Romine is one of the few Tigers that has managed to hit JC Ramirez well so far. He only has one hit in three at bats, but that hit was a three run homer. Romine is priced right to take a shot on him doing it again.

3B: Luis Valbuena ($2,600): Valbuena has never faced Michael Fulmer, but it stands to reason that he wont have much more success than the rest of his teammates. However, he is still batting in the middle of the order, and is cheap enough for me to use as a punt play. There is little else at this price.

SS: Brandon Crawford ($4,100): Crawford has started slowly, but he has the power to hit one (or two) out at Miller Park against an inexperienced right handed pitcher. All Giants are in play, but especially the lefties. A word of caution here though: stacking an impotent lineup, no matter who they oppose, isn’t always a great idea. Two Giants is enough exposure for me.

OF: Adam Duvall ($4,500): Duvall is 8-19(.421) with two walks, two doubles, two homers, four runs scored, and an impressive eight RBI in his career against Mike Leake. He looks like one of the safest bets of the afternoon, and at a very reasonable price.

OF: Billy Hamilton ($4,200): Hamilton is 7-14 with a walk, a solo homer, three runs scored, and three steals against Leake. The good part here is that Yadier Molina will likely get a breather this afternoon, which could increase Hamilton’s chances of swiping a bag even more.

OF: Hunter Renfroe ($3,600): Renfroe slugged two homers against Robbie Ray on Tuesday. Now he gets another, and less talented, lefty in Patrick Corbin. Renfroe has the power to knock it out, and the hitter’s park wont hurt his quest any.
