Oklahoma State and their head football coach, Mike Gundy, have agreed to a lucrative long-term extension that will keep him there for another five years.

Mike Gundy isn’t all about the beautiful hair, he’s also about coaching winning football at Oklahoma State. Looks like the athletic department at OSU didn’t want him to leave either, as the two sides have agreed to a long-term extension.

Last year, there were reports that the Gundy and Oklahoma State had reached an agreement on a two-year deal, but it fell through. Gundy waited a year and in return was rewarded with a five-year contract extension.

The base salary for the OSU head coach will be $4.2 million, with raises of $125,000 built in for every year after that. It’s well-deserved for the most accomplished coach in Oklahoma State history.

Gundy has been with the Cowboys’ football program since 1990, when he joined as a wide receivers coach. He eventually left for different coaching jobs at Baylor and Maryland, but returned to Stillwater to run the show from 2005 onwards.

He has a head coaching record of 104-50, with a 7-4 record in bowl games. Gundy also has won a Big 12 championship in 2011. OSU has been in 11 straight bowl games, with appearances in the Fiesta Bowl, Sugar Bowl and Cotton Bowl. The Cowboys have also had double-digit wins in five of the past seven seasons. The outlook is positive for Oklahoma State, who should have an extremely potent offense once again. They should be competitive in the Big 12 and be in the running for the title.

Gundy is a big persona off the field as well, as he dons a mullet, has worn a singlet for the OSU wrestling team and also gone rattlesnake hunting. Let’s see what he can do on the football field this upcoming season with heavy expectations on his shoulders.
