DraftKings Early MLB Picks For June 14

There are only three games in the early DraftKings tournament today. The A’s-Marlins first pitch is at the crack of noon, so that one is only available in the all day tournaments. We still have one ace out there. Should we use him? Who should we use with him? Let’s check some stats!

More from DFS

The money line last night was down to 114.85, but that was still high enough to keep me out. I stacked the wrong side in the Mariners stack, and Buck Farmer had me uttering a word that rhymes with his first name several times during his terrible outing against Arizona.

The winning lineup was all the way up to 240.85. His Twins stack paid off huge, capped by Eddie Rosario‘s 49 DraftKings points.

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

DraftKings
Jun 9, 2017; San Diego, CA, USA; San Diego Padres starting pitcher Jhoulys Chacin (46) pitches during the first inning against the Kansas City Royals at Petco Park. Mandatory Credit: Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Johnny Cueto ($11,700): His former teammates are only hitting .250 against Cueto in 48 at bats with just two runs scored while striking out 11 times. The Royals offense is average to begin with. When you put them up against a true ace, they look even worse. Cueto is easily the best pitching option on the slate today, and should be worth paying for.

P: Jhoulys Chacin ($7,100): If Chacin started all 33 of his games at Petco Park, he may win a Cy Young award. He has a 1.58 ERA at home compared to a 10.27 ERA on the road. His great home numbers are overshadowed by how bad he has been on the road. No matter, it keeps his price down on DraftKings. Expect another strong start from Chacin at home today.

C: Jose Lobaton ($2,100): It’s a day game after a night game, so Lobaton should be in there. I really hope he is, and not just because he is dirt cheap. Lobaton is 7-15(.467) with three walks, a double, two homers, five runs scored, and five RBI in his career against Julio Teheran. The Nationals are hitting .349 with a ridiculous .479 wOBA against Teheran in 146 at bats. They have slugged a staggering 12 homers and driven in 39 runs! This is no fluke! Stack Nationals today! It’s worth the money!

1B: Wil Myers ($3,500): Myers is way too cheap for facing a left hander with a 7.40 ERA. Amir Garrett has been one of the worst starters in the league over the last six weeks after a strong start to his career. He has not posted a quality start since May 6th. There is no reason to believe that he will here either. I want all the Padres right handers that I can get my hands on!

2B: Jose Pirela ($3,600): Pirela’s scorching start to his major league career wont be slowed down by Garrett. As long as Pirela keeps hitting, he is a lock in my lineup!

3B: Anthony Rendon ($4,100): Rendon was one of the few quiet Nationals last night, and truth be told, I wouldn’t be heartbroken if the team sits him and goes with Stephen Drew. Then I would have the required cap space to put Ender Inciarte in there. Rendon is 7-27(.259) with a walk, two doubles, a run scored, and two RBI in his career against Teheran. No biggie, but third base is a very shallow position in the middle, and I can’t afford to pay for Eduardo Nunez.

SS: Trea Turner ($5,600): Turner is leading off for an offense that looks like it is going to score a lot of runs again today. Turner is perfect in his career against Julio Teheran with two singles, a double, and to runs scored. Expect similar stats this afternoon.

OF: Bryce Harper ($5,500): No matter what you do. No matter what way you choose to differentiate your lineup this afternoon. You have to have one constant. Bryce Harper. Harper has as good of BvP stats as you will ever see. Harper is 15-33(.455) with five walks, three doubles, seven homers, eight runs scored, and a staggering 17 RBI against Julio Teheran. Teheran’s struggles against lefties is well documented. One could argue that Harper started the whole things. You have to play Harper today. Period.

OF: Hunter Renfroe ($3,600): Renfroe has feasted off of left handed pitching this year. He is hitting .328 with four homers and 11 RBI in just 58 at bats against lefties. I want him in there any time a lefty is on the mound, especially one as pedestrian as Garrett.

OF: Hunter Pence ($3,200): Pence slugged two homers on Sunday, so I’m hoping that signified an end to his horrid slump. He is 7-22(.318) with a walk, two doubles, a homer, two runs scored, and six RBI in his career against Jason Hammel. Pence could be a huge bargain if he has turned a corner.
