MLB All-Star Game rosters: National League voting update

With less than a month until the MLB All-Star Game, an update has come from the National League regarding their game day roster.

This is the fourth installment of the MLB All-Star Game fan voting update and there have been a number of changes.

The most exciting race in the NL is for the three starting outfield positions. While Bryce Harper and Charlie Blackmon have earned the top two spots easily with over two million votes each, Jason Heyward, Ben Zobrist, Marcell Ozuna, Matt Kemp, and Giancarlo Stanton are all jockeying for the final spot. They each have vote totals in the 800,000 and 900,000 range.

Bryce Harper remains the highest vote-getter with nearly three million. Daniel Murphy sits in second at second base with nearly two and a half million.

The race for first base has tightened with Anthony Rizzo being on a surge as of late. He has moved within 200,000 votes of Washington Nationals first baseman Ryan Zimmerman. Rizzo recently took the leadoff spot for the Chicago Cubs and has impressed. This week he hit three home runs and drove in eight runs. Meanwhile, Zimmerman hit just .208 over the past week.

Additionally, the race for shortstop is close. Zach Cosart of the Cincinnati Reds currently holds a 300,000 vote lead over the Chicago Cubs’ Javier Baez. However, Cosart is dealing with a quad injury, which could open the door for Baez to steal the starting spot.

The race for the final spots on the National League starting nine will be exciting as we near the end of June.

Voting ends on June 29 at 11:59 PM ET. In the meantime, fans can cast up to a maximum of 35 ballots.

The MLB All-Star Game is set for July 11 in Miami at Marlins Park. The National League will surely have a formidable roster, but the starters have yet to be determined.
