NHL Awards: Connor McDavid wins the Hart Memorial Trophy
Connor McDavid had himself an impressive night at the NHL Awards, as he won the Hart Memorial Trophy and was named the NHL 18 cover athlete.
Connor McDavid may be from another planet with how easily he won awards left and right at the NHL Awards on Wednesday night, and he finished off his impressive night by winning the Hart Memorial Trophy as the league’s most valuable player.
McDavid scored 30 goals and tallied 100 total points for the Edmonton Oilers in the 2016-2017 season, leading the team in an impressive postseason run that ended in a second-round loss to the Anaheim Ducks. He was the lone player in the league to hit the 100-point mark, and he did it in just his second season in the league.
McDavid outlasted Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sidney Crosby, who many are already comparing the young stud to, and Columbus Blue Jackets goalie and Vezina Trophy winner Sergei Bobrovsky.
At 20 years old, McDavid is the fourth-youngest winner of the Hart Trophy, and he proved that he’s truly the start of a youth movement in the NHL that should make everyone take notice. EA Sports definitely did, announcing that McDavid would be on the cover of NHL 18 with the game focusing on the league’s large youth movement.

McDavid also took home another award earlier in the night before he was announced as a cover boy, as he was voted as the Ted Lindsay award winner by his peers. That award is also known as an MVP trophy, but is voted on by the players rather than writers like the Hart Trophy process.
At this rate, we may be hearing McDavid’s name announced as the winner of the Hart Trophy for many more years to come, as he hasn’t even reached his prime in the league yet. That’s a scary thought for every team but Edmonton.
