DraftKings Early MLB Picks For June 28

We only have two games this afternoon. Where do we gain separation with our DraftKings lineups. We have no ace, so we can pay for any hitter or pitcher we want. Who are the best bets in this free for all? Let’s check some stats!

More from DFS

The money line yesterday was pretty average at 116.85. My lineup with Luis Severino and James Paxton made it in easily thanks to my mini Tigers stack as well. The other was undone by an ill-fated Rockies stack.

The winning lineup was also pretty average at 210.55 DraftKings points. He used Carlos Martinez and Drew Pomeranz, both of whom were 10% owned or less. He also had a big game from every hitter, banking on a hybrid Red Sox/Reds stack.

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

P: Felix Hernandez ($9,300): King Felix was solid in his return against the Astros, giving up three runs in six innings with six strikeouts. He gets a reprieve today in the Phillies, who are one of the worst teams in the majors against right handed pitching. He isn’t going to dominate this game, but a quality start and a win are all but certain. You take what you can get on a two game slate.

P: Kyle Freeland ($8,500): Freeland has actually been better at home than on the road, which is very unusual for a Colorado pitcher. I am making the exception here since Freeland has only allowed one run to the Giants in two starts this year. That was back on June 17th when he gave up one run over six innings in a win at Coors. He is a lot safer than Ty Blach, who was solid against the Rockies at Coors Field before getting trounced by the Mets at home. You don’t need that kind of inconsistency in your lineup.

C: Mike Zunino ($3,900): I’m hoping Zunino is in there again today. Putting him up against a rookie doesn’t seem fair with what Zunino has done in June. He is easily the best at the position if he starts.

1B: Ian Desmond ($4,600): Blach has surrendered eight hits, including two homers, in 30 at bats against the Rockies. This is not really a hitter’s park, but the Mets sure figured him out, and they aren’t great against left handed pitching. Statistically, the Rockies are better, so I will get plenty of exposure today.

2B: Taylor Motter ($3,200): With DJ LeMahieu leaving last night’s game early, I am assuming he wont be back for the matinee. That allows me more Mariners exposure to Mark Leiter Jr. Motter should be in there somewhere, and he usually produces when called upon.

3B: Kyle Seager ($3,900): Seager destroys right handed pitching. Seven of his eight home runs have come against righties this year, and he is hitting 35 points higher against them. Mark Leiter Jr. was solid in his debut, but the Mariners are hot right now. I trust them a lot more than a rookie pitcher.

SS: Trevor Story ($3,500): Story is 2-3 with a solo homer against Ty Blach. The good news is that Story did hit that home run this year. He has been a disappointment thus far, but if he can do it once, he at least deserves a shot to do it again at a bargain price.

OF: Ben Gamel ($4,900): Picking on a rookie with a rookie may seem counterintuitive, but Gamel and fellow rookie Mitch Haniger have made this offense go this year. Both of them wreak havoc at the top of the lineup. Gamel with his speed, and Haniger with his power and ability to hit to all fields. I don’t care how expensive they are today. I want them both. How about this stat: Gamel has 51 DraftKings points against the Phillies in just two games this year!

OF: Mitch Haniger ($4,600): Same as with Gamel. Haniger is averaging a touch over 10 DraftKings points per game since returning from injury a couple of weeks ago. Both of them are too good to pass up today.

OF: Howie Kendrick ($4,000): Kendrick is 22-77(.286) with three walks, two steals, four doubles, a homer, nine runs scored, and five RBI in his career against King Felix. Kendrick isn’t quite the player that he was with the Angels when he put up those stats, but he has been productive for the Phillies this year. He is hitting .361 with two homers and 13 RBI in 32 games.
