DraftKings Early MLB Picks For June 29

There are five games in the early DraftKings tournament today. We have enough pitching options to gain separation. Should we pay for Kluber, or go cheap and stack hitters? Let’s check out some stats!

More from DFS

The money line yesterday was low even for a two game slate. 95.4 made you money. My lineup just missed because my Rockies stack didn’t go as planned.

The winning lineup was the lowest of the season at 142.95. That is a mark that many of us break daily! He used Ty Blach and Felix Hernandez, which was the winning combination at pitcher. His bargain play of Nick Hundley came up big, and his Mariners stack took down the tournament.

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

Jun 23, 2017; San Diego, CA, USA; Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Michael Fulmer (32) pitches against the San Diego Padres during the first inning at Petco Park. Mandatory Credit: Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Michael Fulmer ($9,400): The Royals are only hitting .204 against Fulmer in 54 at bats with two homes and four runs. Eric Hosmer has driven in three of them. The stat of notice here is the 13 strikeouts. That is better than one every four batters! Fulmer is going to be close to, if not over, Corey Kluber‘s total today.

P: Jon Lester ($8,000): Lester has held the Nationals to a .214 average with only one home run in 117 at bats. He has also struck out 37! Lester has not quite been his dominant self this year, but it is hard to ignore numbers like this. Matt Wieters has eight of the ten RBI, and he likely wont be playing the day after a night game. Lester could post really strong numbers for his price today.

C: James McCann ($2,900): He is cheap and should be starting the day game after a night game. I want to stack Arizona hitters, so taking a downgrade at catcher seems the most obvious move.

1B: Paul Goldschmidt ($5,600): Lance Lynn has been awful lately, giving up 14 runs in 10.1 innings over his last two starts. A trip to Arizona wont help that trend. Lynn has a 4.41 road ERA, and the Diamondbacks are hitting .310 against him in his career. Goldy is 3-13 with a walk and two RBI. That isn’t numbers that warrant this price, but Goldschmidt is averaging 12.4 DraftKings points over the last ten games. Do you think Lynn can stop him? Yeah, me either.

2B: Rougned Odor ($2,900): I know that he is facing one of the better pitchers around, but this price still seems way to low. Odor is 3-6 with two homers and four RBI in his career against Corey Kluber. I wouldn’t rush to stack Rangers, but they are hitting .262 against Kluber in 65 at bats. I’m not sure he will be worth the money today, so I have no reservations about taking Odor.

3B: Jake Lamb ($5,000): Lamb has a .400 on base percentage in June, so even though the power has declined a little, he is still scoring and driving in runs. He is also punishing right handed pitching. Lamb is hitting .335 with 15 of his 17 homers off of right handed pitching. A guy who is getting knocked around like Lynn could be in a lot of trouble here!

SS: Jose Iglesias ($2,400): Jake Junis still has an ERA close to five, and his metrics say that it should be even worse than that. Iglesias should still be starting today. I don’t care if he is batting ninth. He will at least have a couple of great chances to get on base.

OF: J.D. Martinez ($4,800): Martinez has 13 homers in only 42 games this year. Projected to a full season, that is 51 home runs! He is also hitting .322 in June, so power isn’t the only part of his game. Martinez is on base a lot and drives in quite a few as well. Against a pitcher that is always one pitch away from disaster, Martinez should be worth his price.

OF: David Peralta ($4,700): Peralta is 5-7 with a homer and two RBI in his career against Lynn. He is the only Diamondback to hit a home run off of Lynn so far, but considering that Lynn has allowed six homers in his last two starts, that distinction likely ends today. I want as much exposure to Lynn as possible.

OF: Josh Reddick ($4,300): Daniel Gossett will get the start over Jharel Cotton, but Reddick’s output likely wont change much. He is hitting .367 in June and has two homers in the last week. Reddick is starting to heat up, and is near the top of one of the best lineups in baseball. I see no reason not to use him!
