NBA Free Agency rumors: Lakers still considering Rajon Rondo
The Los Angeles Lakers came into free agency hoping to add a veteran to the team, and it might be Rajon Rondo.
According to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, the Los Angeles Lakers are high on point guard Rajon Rondo.
Earlier this offseason, the Lakers traded away their franchise point guard, D’Angelo Russell, to the Brooklyn Nets. The Lakers drafted Lonzo Ball, the point guard from UCLA, second overall in the NBA Draft but still need a veteran to show him the ropes.
In the minds of the Lakers front office, Rondo is the man for the job. Rondo plays a great all-around style, much like Ball. During his career, which began in 2006, he has averaged 10.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 8.5 assists per game.
Additionally, Rondo wouldn’t just be a wise figure for Ball to learn from, he could immediately give his teammates chances. Russell was more invested in creating opportunities for himself than those around him and Rondo is the complete opposite.
Rondo loves to open up the court for his teammates. This will bolster the confidence of players like Jordan Clarkson and Brandon Ingram, who were quiet this past season.
Rondo’s young teammates in Chicago loved having him last season and next year could be no different in Los Angeles, according to K.C. Johnson of The Chicago Tribune.

It would be surprising if Rondo sought a move to the Lakers because he wants to contend for a championship. Los Angeles probably won’t be in the mix for a while, despite LaVar Ball’s promises. Last season, they finished 14th in the Western Conference with a record of 26-56.
The Lakers have been quiet early in the free agency period, talking to a few players. Although injuries have plagued Rondo the past few seasons and his effectiveness has declined since he left the Boston Celtics, he would still be a big addition.
