The Los Angeles Lakers are starting off NBA Free Agency by reaching out to Andre Iguodala, Ben McLemore and Rajon Rondo for meetings.

Free agency this year is far different than free agency last year for the Los Angeles Lakers. This time in 2016, the Lakers committed a huge contract to the Timofey Mozgov. Luckily, the Lakers were able to get out of that contract and send it to Brooklyn along with D’Angelo Russell.

Now, a year later with Rob Pelinka and Magic Johnson in the lead, the Lakers aren’t making any hasty deals.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, which was later followed up by Ramona Shelburne, the Lakers made calls to Andre Iguodala, Rajon Rondo and Ben McLemore.

Don’t expect the Lakers get caught with any big deals. The big free agents are all set to hit the market next season, and Los Angeles wants to make sure that it has the salary cap space to offer those players max contracts.

There’s a possibility that they sign some low-tier free agents this season, but expect them to stay away from the big names. LA might offer Iguodala a one-year deal at a high value just to keep him away from Golden State, per Wojnarowski.

Rondo was released by the Chicago Bulls earlier on Friday, and with the point guard market mostly set, it’s going to be hard for him to find a home. Kris Dunn takes over in Chicago, Ricky Rubio in Utah, Jeff Teague in Minnesota, and George Hill and Kyle Lowry are still free agents.

Ben McLemore is the youngest of the three, becoming a free agent after the Kings didn’t pick up the team option for a fifth year. He’s the likeliest of the three to sign in LA, but with Magic and Pelinka in the fold, it’s hard to predict the future.
