Freddy Galvis had a career-best season for the Phillies in 2016 but has failed to match that success this year. But, he is starting to heat up at the plate, so should fantasy owners be giving him a closer look?

Freddy Galvis was one of the best waiver wire finds last season after posting a career-best .241/20 HR/67 RBI/17 SB/.623 OPS line for the Phillies. The power and speed combo were a nice revelation from an MI, but heading into the 2017 season it seemed as though the fantasy consensus was that he would come back to earth. Those predictions were right, yet Galvis has come on as of late.

Can he now be considered a waiver wire add again?

Galvis currently sits with a .254/8 HR/33 RBI/6 SB/.720 OPS line over 83 games. This serves as a solid line, but far from the HR rate that he had last season. But, his batted ball profile this season is very similar to 2016.

More from Fantasy Baseball

In 2016, he ended the season with 24% LD, 40% GB, 36% FB, 56% Med and 27% Hard contact rates.

Over his 331 at-bats this season, he currently sports 21% LD, 39% GB, 40% FB, 52% Med and 28% Hard contact rates. He is not hitting as many line drives this season, more than likely the reason behind the Med contact drop, but he is still squaring the ball up well nonetheless.

His BB rate is also currently a career best 7%, while he has cut his K rate by nearly 5% to 16% this season. Galvis’ seasonal line looks as bad as it does because of a horrid month of May, where he could only muster a .188 AVG/.585 OPS.  He was solid in April, .271/3 HR/13 RBI, and in June, .287/3 HR/7 RBI, so the production is there.

The major reason that fantasy owners should be interested again is that over the last two weeks or so, there is no hotter hitter in the league than Galvis. With 18 hits over 55 at-bats, with two of those hits leaving the ballpark as well, all arrows point up. The six steals are a little low for him, but three steals have come over the last two weeks.

The Phillies are bad and have severely underperformed in 2017. Freddy Galvis may not be the 20 HR/20 SB threat that he flirted with last season, but he once again has a shot to flirt with the 15 HR/15 SB mark. The batted profile speaks to him swinging the bat nearly identical to last season, so fantasy owners have the tangible proof as well.

Make the move.
