Last season ended on a sour note for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but that might not be the end of his Manchester United career.

Despite suffering a very bad knee injury toward the end of last season, Zlatan Ibrahimovic still finished as the Manchester United leading goalscorer. And with no contract offer immediately at the end of the one-year deal he originally had, many thought his days in Manchester were done. This might not be the case.

With Ibrahimovic still months away from a full recovery, the future is unclear for the 35-year-old striker. There have been multiple reports linking him to the LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer, but Ibrahimovic seems more interested in returning to Old Trafford to end his days there on a brighter note than a knee injury.

Aside from Ibrahimovic being at Carrington, the training center of Manchester United, to continue rehab on his knee, Jose Mourinho hasn’t closed the door on a deal either. Mourinho didn’t have a ton to say about it, but it was enough to keep the door open for Ibrahimovic if he can continue to recover.

"Mourinho said: “If the decision is to stay and wait until December – he can’t be back until them – why not wait? We are speaking and changing ideas.”"

The one wrinkle to this possibility is the newly-signed Romelu Lukaku. Lukaku looks set to be the main striker for United next season, and Ibrahimovic would be a fantastic addition to the Red Devils strike force.

The issue with adding Ibrahimovic would be the implications on the playing time of Marcus Rashford. If Ibrahimovic comes back, and Lukaku continues his solid scoring at United, Rashford might be in for a tough job to secure playing time at striker.
