DraftKings Late MLB Picks For July 16

There are only four games in the late DraftKings tournament today, but we still have plenty to choose from. There are a few bargains hiding so we can pay up for some big bats. Which ones should we pay up for? Let’s check some stats!

More from DFS

The money line last night was at 127.6 DraftKings points. Both of my lineups failed to hit triple digits because of Tyler Chatwood in one lineup and poor hitting in the other. Fading Max Scherzer didn’t help either.

The winning lineup was up to 229.6 DraftKings points. He also faded Scherzer, going with Kluber and Alex Wood instead. He did not use the stack option, and seemingly had the best hitter in every lineup, highlighted by Cody Bellinger and Luis Valbuena both topping 30 DraftKings points.

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – JULY 08: Jeff Samardzija #29 of the San Francisco Giants pitches against the Miami Marlins in the top of the first inning at AT&T Park on July 8, 2017 in San Francisco, California. (Photo by Thearon W. Henderson/Getty Images) /

P: Jeff Samardzija ($9,500): Samardzija has held the Padres to a .204 average with just one home run and four runs in 54 at bats. Samardzija also gets the added benefit of pitching in Petco Park. Shark has a 2.04 ERA in six career appearances there. It doesn’t look good for the Padres this afternoon.

P: Sean Manaea ($6,000): Manaea dominated Cleveland earlier in the season, holding them to just three hits and striking out nine in seven innings. In his career, the Indians haven’t fared any better. They are hitting just .118 off of him with 11 strikeouts in 34 at bats with just one solo home run as the blemish against him. Manaea is a solid way to go cheap even against an offense like Cleveland since he is at home.

C: Gary Sanchez ($4,300): David Price has certainly not figured out Sanchez yet. Sanchez is 4-7 off of Price with two walks in his career. All four of those hits have cleared the wall, and he has already driven in nine runs. This isn’t some rookie pitcher fresh out of AAA. This is David Price!  A multiple All Star team member and Cy Young award contender. There is no excuse for fading Sanchez tonight.

1B: Yonder Alonso ($4,100): Alonso goes largely unnoticed on the West Coast, but his numbers are among the best at the position in the American League. He is 4-10 with four walks, a homer, four runs scored, and three RBI in his career against Trevor Bauer.

2B: Dustin Pedroia ($4,400): Pedroia is 7-27(.259) with a solo homer and two runs scored against Masahiro Tanaka. Tanaka has struggled less against Boston this year than some teams, but he still has allowed five runs in 14 innings, including three home runs.

3B: Evan Longoria ($4,100): There is no history here against rookie Parker Bridwell, and Bridwell pitched pretty well in his first stint in the majors with a 3.24 ERA. Bridwell will rack up some strikeouts against the Rays, but I tend to think that this offense can get to him. I want some exposure here.

SS: Xander Bogaerts ($4,100): Bogaerts is 7-32(.219) with four walks, a double, a homer, four runs scored, and four RBI in his career against Masahiro Tanaka. I prefer Bogaerts over Francisco Lindor who is only 1-6 against Sean Manaea with a solo homer. I prefer Bogaerts since I’m not using Tanaka. If you aren’t using Manaea, then feel free to chase Lindor.

OF: Aaron Judge ($5,500): Judge has only faced Price twice, but he has walked a scored a run. While Judge is much more dangerous at Yankee Stadium, it’s hard to bet against him anywhere. I have the money since I saved with Manaea, so I’m rolling out both components of the future of teh Yankees.

OF: Andrew Benintendi ($4,000): Benintendi is 3-10 with a double and a solo homer against Masahiro Tanaka. Tanaka was not sharp in his last start before the break, so we wonder if he really is back on track. I tend to think no, so I have no problems using a couple of Red Sox.

OF: Corey Dickerson ($3,900): In my mind, Dickerson is still too cheap for his skill set. He is still batting second in this lineup, but has not done as well in that position. Still, this slump wont last forever. A four hit day last night has me optimistic for his matchup with Bridwell.
