Red Sox trade for Eduardo Nunez: Fantasy Fallout
By Brad Kelly
Eduardo Nunez is headed to the Red Sox after the team dealt for him to solidify their scuffling lineup. What is the fantasy fallout of the deal?
The man with the flying helmet is officially heading to Beantown. Eduardo Nunez was dealt to the Red Sox yesterday, as the team hopes he will add the boost to the lineup that the team desperately needs.
But, what is the fantasy fallout of the deal?
The Red Sox have tried to throw a number of players at third base hoping that one would stick. Predictably, none of them did, leaving the team with a huge hole on the diamond. The promotion of Rafael Devers seemed like the most logical move for some time now, and Boston finally obliged that thinking this week.

From a fantasy standpoint, Nunez and Devers would appear to clash as Nunez primarily has played at third this season and Devers calls the hot corner home. But, it does not look as though that Devers is going to go away quietly as his first hit as a major leaguer was a bomb against the Mariners.
For the Red Sox, their best option is to carry both players moving forward. Deven Marrero is not a regular in MLB, Brock Holt can not stay healthy, Tzu-Wei Lin is not enough of the spark they need and even Xander Bogaerts is trying to tough out an injury while struggling at the plate.
Also, keep in mind that Nunez has played the two corner outfield positions as well, so even Chris Young could lose at-bats.
Nunez and Devers are going to get their at-bats, and both are intriguing options down the stretch. If Nunez can slide near the top of the order, his havoc causing playing style would do wonders for his counting stats. Playing his home games in Fenway will certainly help too.
On the Giants’ end of things, they received two pitching prospects, 22-year-old Shaun Anderson and 17- year-old Gregory Santos. Anderson is being stretched out as a starter after being a solid bullpen arm at the University of Florida. He has the pitch mix to succeed but is some ways off from debuting.

Santos is the much more intriguing arm. He is barely a teenager, yet was electric in the Dominican Summer League, posting a 0.90 ERA. He is more of a lottery ticket at this point, the command certainly needs to be refined, but the upside would make him a possible name to watch in future fantasy discussions.
