Addison Reed is the latest reliever to get traded, as he is now headed to the Red Sox. What is the fantasy fallout from the deal?

Coming off the heels of another blown lead versus the Royals, the Red Sox had enough and made the move to bring in Addison Reed from the Mets. But, what is the fantasy fallout of the news?

Reed has been nothing short of dominant for the Mets since coming over to the team in 2015. He has a career 2.09 ERA in Queens and was one of the few consistent pieces in the backend of a tumultuous bullpen.

Reed sits with a 2.57 ERA/19 SV/48 K line over 49 innings this season. Heading to the Red Sox, Reed slides back into his more familiar eight inning role. With Joe Kelly and Carson Smith still out, Reed immediately becomes the key set-up man to Craig Kimbrel.

Reed’s K rate is down this season, but the walks have gone down and he sits with a career best 88% Strand rate. One thing to watch though is that the home run ball has hurt him this season. His 44% FB rate is the highest during his time with the Mets, so the move to Boston will serve as a test.

With all that said, Reed has found a ton of success as of late and it seems as though he can still be a solid set-up man with the move. His fantasy value takes hit as he will not close, but the HLDS should be there in abundance with the Red Sox.

In terms of the Mets return, they did do well in acquiring three of Boston’s top-30 prospects. They received three RP, Jamie Callahan, Gerson Bautista and Stephen Nogosek.

The Mets have their eyes toward 2018, while the Red Sox are going for it right now, so this trade makes sense. Addison Reed is a solid add and should find success handing leads to Kimbrel down the stretch.
