Fantasy Baseball: Jaime Garcia On The Move Again

You saw me in this very same space last week gushing about how the Twins were practically given Jaime Garcia by the Braves. What a difference a week makes! Garcia posted the only win for the Twins last week, and the rebuilding team decided that they were (rightly) still a year away. Garcia is moving to the Bronx before his change of address form even took effect. Here is the deal:

Yankees Get
LHP Jaime Garcia
Twins Get
LHP Dietrich Enns, RHP Zack Littell

Not bad for a team that was given Garcia to begin with! Typically, lefties do pretty well in Yankee Stadium due to the park catering more to left handed power. However, SunTrust Park is the same way, and Garcia struggled there after a great start to the season at home.

The difference here is that Garcia will receive much more run support. He will also not be relied upon to be a front line starter. Moving to the middle of the rotation could take some of the pressure off of him.

At any rate, staying in the American League will likely have an adverse effect on his ERA, despite his nice start in the league. Garcia is still worth owning in league of 12 or more, and he is definitely worth spot starts whenever the matchup is favorable.

He is worth targeting in deeper leagues if you are in need of wins. That is the category that Garcia will get more of a boost in from his move to New York.

Let’s meet the free prospects that the Twins got in return. Dietrich Enns has been brilliant this season, posting a 2.29 ERA in seven starts at AAA Scranton-Wilkes Barre. The Twins are loaded on pitching in the high minors anyway, but with Phil Hughes and Hector Santiago out and Kyle Gibson struggling, Enns could be given a chance in the majors soon. If he is, he is worth a look in deep leagues.

Zack Littell has also pitched very well in the minors this year. He is 14-1 with a 1.93 ERA in 21 appearances (19 starts) between high A and AA this year. He likely wont see any time in the majors this year, but with a strong spring, he could make the rotation next year. Keep his name in mind.
