For the second year in a row, the Celtics made the playoffs, acquired a top-3 draft pick and signed an All-Star free agent to a max contract.

So are they amazing now or what?

Well, maybe. Probably not. But it depends who you ask. On the most recent episode of Fastbreak Breakfast, I asked James Holas (@SnottieDrippen). James is a Boston fan who contributes to BBallBreakdown.com and frequently appears on Almighty Baller Radio. Yes, Boston could have the best record in the Eastern Conference again. But are they any closer to being a title contender? How do they match up against the elite teams in the West? How much better does adding Gordon Hayward make them?

SPOILER: James and I disagree

ALSO COVERED:

  • Can the Celtics win any games that Isaiah Thomas has to miss for injury?
  • Have the Celtics addressed the problems they faced last year, such as rebounding, rim protection and 3-point shooting?
  • How does the roster fit together? Can Hayward, Jae Crowder, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown all get enough minutes to stay happy? Can any of those guys play shooting guard for extended stretches?
  • Does Al Horford get enough credit for being an offensive catalyst?
  • Who starts and finishes games? What would a theoretical 9-man rotation look like?
  • Is Danny Ainge kicking the can down the road by not trading any of his future picks for current players?
