Angels C.J. Cron on fire at the plate: Waiver wire add?
By Brad Kelly
C.J. Cron is on fire at the plate right now for the resurgent Angels. But, is he worth a waiver wire add moving forward?
Do not look now, but the Angels are currently in the second wild card spot in the AL. The team is playing its best baseball, and the resurgence from C.J. Cron is certainly playing a huge part in it.
But, is he worth a waiver wire add moving forward?
Cron is an interesting player. The first round pick of the Angels in 2011 has all the raw talent to be a force in MLB. He stands in at 6’4 and 235 lbs and in 2015 and 2016, posted back to back .260+ AVG/16 HR/50+ RBI stat lines.

It looked as though he was ready to take the next step heading into 2017, as he would be the starter at first base and man a spot in the middle of the Halos’ lineup. Yet, things did not go as smoothly. He was terrible the first three months of the season, he could only muster 2 HR/14 RBI over that span, which eventually saw him being sent down in June.
The Angels were forced to recall him only a few weeks later due to injuries, and all Cron has done since is rake. Since being recalled, he has posted a .343/7 HR/18 RBI/1.073 OPS line. He looks again like the power threat that fantasy owners saw the last two seasons, and the demotion seems to have triggered his return to life.
From a fantasy perspective, adding Cron is a solid addition. It is hard to argue against the roll he is on right now, and even though the first three months were brutal, this latest edition of him is more in line with what he career speaks too.
It is also important to note, that it was not as though Cron was not hitting the ball hard before his demotion. He owned 20%+ LD, 40%+ Med and 30%+ Hard contact rates, but was getting nothing to show for it, until now.
He is back in the cleanup spot as well for the Angels, so the counting stats will certainly be there. There was a concern over playing time too as Luis Valbuena, Albert Pujols and Yunel Escobar, all clouded the picture. But, Escobar is on the DL, allowing Valbuena starts at third and opening the door for Cron to be the everyday first basemen once again.

C.J. Cron played his way off the fantasy radar for the whole first half of the season. However, his recent surge shows that he can salvage not only his season but also be a solid waiver wire add down the stretch as he could continue to produce.
Make the move.
