Twins: Jorge Polanco’s interesting fantasy value
By Brad Kelly
Jorge Polanco was in a terrible slump this season for the Twins. But, now that he is red hot at the plate, should fantasy owners be interested?
The Minnesota Twins are one of the best stories in the 2017 season. as they sit four games over .500 and, right in the middle of the playoff race. While they have had many players step up this season, Jorge Polanco failed to live up to most of the team’s expectations.
Until, now.
Jorge Polanco was ticketed as the starting shortstop for the Twins to begin the season. After two lackluster months to begin the year where he posted a combined .255/2 HR/20 RBI/.670 OPS line, things went off the rails in June and July.
In June his could only muster a .203/1 HR/6 RBI line, and he would then hit rock bottom in July. He posted a ghastly .078/6 RBI line over 17 games, ending any and all fantasy intrigue that owners may have had.

The Twins were forced to make some changes as well, getting Polanco out of the lineup when they could. Yet, he was out of minor league options and the team was not willing to abandon him.
Thankfully, that patience has paid off as he has gone on an absolute tear at the plate this month.
Over 24 games this month, he has notched a .378/4 HR/20 RBI/1.066 OPS line. He has also posted nine doubles and two triples, while also snagging three bags. He simply carried the Twins’ offense since Miguel Sano went down to injury.
Polanco can not get any hotter at the plate, he homered in four straight games during his torrid stretch, offering owners one of the more appealing commodities on the wire.
Polanco is by no means going to power fantasy owners down the stretch, but he is spraying the ball all over the field and has found his HR stroke as of late. He does own 20% LD, 40% FB, 53% Med and 27% Hard contact rates, all respectable considering he has struggled for most of the season.

Jorge Polanco is the perfect type of under the radar add that fantasy owners use to their advantage. His seasonal line is not going to wow anyone, yet the hot streak that he is riding for nearly the entire month is worth fantasy interest.
