The New York Yankees have been getting all sorts of good news on the injury front.

The New York Yankees have had guys on and off the DL all season long, but they are getting healthy at the right time.

Starlin Castro, Matt Holliday and Greg Bird are the most notable guys to return from injury, and Clint Frazier is scheduled to begin his rehab assignment on Thursday. There’s one name that you may have forgot about, though.

Yankees prized prospect Gleyber Torres is almost back according to his latest Twitter post. The number three prospect in baseball suffered a torn UCL back in June on his non-throwing elbow. The injury occurred while he was in Triple-A, and a catcher landed on his elbow after a head first slide.

Usually when you hear Tommy John surgery you immediately think it’ll be another year before he returns. That’s not the case here. Firstly, Torres is a position player, and they only require about a six month recovery time. Secondly, it’s his non-throwing elbow so he doesn’t have to use it.

Now it’s highly unlikely Torres would actually be called up to the Major League roster even if he is healthy, because there’s really not enough room for him on the infield. Torres had been working all over the infield while in the Minor Leagues in preparation for his inevitable promotion.

Another reason why he’s not likely to likely to receive a call up is because Chase Headley has actually been producing at the plate, and playing solid defense lately.

Headley’s struggles at the plate, and throwing issues at third base was a main reason for the early rumblings of Torres possibly getting a chance this season.

The Yankees are going to be extra careful with their top prospect as expected. Torres wasn’t selected by the club for the Arizona Fall League as he continues to rehab, but he will be ready for Spring Training where he might find himself starting the season on the big league roster.
