Tottenham beat Everton 3-0 in the Premier League on Saturday, Sept. 9. Here are all the highlights from the match.
Harry Kane, August happily behind him, led Tottenham to a comfortable 3-0 win away at Everton, scoring the 100th and 101st goals of his Spurs career, and his first two goals of the new season.
The opening 30 minutes lacked quality from both sides, but Tottenham controlled possession and peppered Everton’s defense with a series of crosses from full-backs Ben Davies and Kieran Trippier.
Kane’s opener also came from a cross, this one mishit significantly enough to sail over Jordan Pickford’s head and in at the back post. The young English keeper could perhaps have moved his feet a little quicker, but it was a lucky goal from Spurs’ perspective.
The Toffees seemed to wilt a little after conceding, and Tottenham doubled their lead in the 42nd minute. Dele Alli’s cross was misplayed by Cuco Martina at the back post, which allowed Davies space to shoot. His shot was saved by Pickford, but fell straight to Christian Eriksen, who finished into the roof of the net.
Kane got his second almost immediately after halftime, when he turned in another dangerous Davies cross to make it 3-0. This was a surprisingly straightforward victory for a Tottenham side coming off a loss and a draw in their last two matches.
That should come as a big concern for Everton manager Ronald Koeman. The Toffees have their sights set on a spot in the top six, but their past two performances, comprehensive defeats against Chelsea and Tottenham, suggest they still have a long way to go to make that leap.
