Kevin Durant is now saying that there was no infamous fake Twitter account that led to the controversy after all.

For the better part of the last 24 hours, all the talk around the NBA has nothing to do with the upcoming season or free agents still on the market, rather it has to do with one of the more popular players in the league, Kevin Durant, Although, if you haven’t heard what the news is and someone asked you to guess, you probably wouldn’t.

Basically, on Monday it appeared that Durant was caught using a fake Twitter account to stick up for himself on the social media platform. He allegedly sent out some damning remarks about why he left the Oklahoma City Thunder in response to a hater, but the thing was, he sent the tweet from his normal account. It got a laugh out of everyone and folks could not stop poking fun at the situation, including other stars in the NBA such as Joel Embiid.

Caught with his internet pants down, basically, it was time to do some damage control and Durant is doing just that. He spoke to USA TODAY about the whole ordeal and expressed a huge amount of remorse for his comments. He also took things a step further by noting that he’s so distraught by all of this that he hasn’t eaten or slept.

Of all he said, though, what stands out from the explanation is the part where he claims that he did not miss posting the tweet on a “burner” account, because one does not exist.

“No, (there’s) no different account,” he said. “I was just on there talking. It kind of looked that way – it did kind of look that way.”

Yeah, KD, it definitely did look like you were on a burner account, sticking up for yourself and referring to yourself in the third person. Yep, that was pretty crystal clear.

Now you can all draw your own conclusions as to whether or not he’s telling the truth; we’re not here to do that. But it’s abundantly clear that he was (wisely) advised to get this whole thing under wraps before the NBA season starts and he and the Golden State Warriors seek their second-straight NBA title.
