Main’s Mavericks – Week 4 DraftKings NFL Low-Salary Boom-or-Bust GPP Advice
DraftKings NFL – Main’s Mavericks – Top GPP Plays for Week 4
Main’s Mavericks provides DraftKings NFL GPP contest advice by searching out low-salary, low-ownership DraftKings plays destined to beat their value. As a general rule for this article, I try to target players below $5,000. My goal is to pick value plays who I believe can exceed 4-5 times their value (EX: $5,000 player x 4 = 20DK Pts). Most of my picks I will be using in DraftKings tournaments as boom-or-bust tournament punt options. Saving on these volatile players will allow you to pay-up for superstars when building that $1,000,000 lineup.
How I did last week:
Mike Glennon 4,700 vs PIT (32nd Priced QB) – 7.44 (29th QB)
Duke Johnson Jr 4,200 @ IND (42nd Priced RB) – 22.40 (9th RB)
Darren Sproles 4,000 vs NYG (49th Priced RB) – 1.10 (>50th RB)
Ryan Grant 3,500 vs OAK (80th Priced WR) – 6.1 (>50th WR)
Deonte Thompson 3,500 vs OAK (80th Priced WR) – 1.90 (>50th WR)
Adam Humphries 3,100 @ MIN (106th Priced WR) – 12.80 (37th WR)
Julius Thomas 3,000 @ NYJ (22nd Priced TE) – 4.60 (25th TE)

DraftKings NFL – Weekly Recap:
What a wild week in the NFL! Underdogs showed up for the Sunday slate, and there was a lot of value for contributors on poor teams. Guys like Case Keenum (31.56), Jacoby Brissett (27.76), Duke Johnson Jr (22.40), Geronimo Allison (21.20) and Marcedes Lewis (28.2) crushed their DK prices. If you were able to read my article last week, then hopefully you bought in on a top 10 RB finish for Duke Johnson Jr. (22.40). Adam Humphries also had a solid week, garnering 10 targets and finishing with 6 receptions for 68 yards (per ESPN.com). Robby Anderson was a guy that I loved weeks 1 & 2, and in week 3 put up 18.50 DK points. Bad break on Darren Sproles, who left the game early with a broken arm and torn ACL. Mike Glennon was exceptionally awful as a fantasy option, but put up a W for the Bears. Week 4 just proved why we love the NFL, anything can happen.
DraftKings NFL GPP Boom-or-Bust Picks
QB:
Tyrod Taylor 5,300 @ ATL (26th Priced QB)
Not too many starting QB options below 5,000. So we will go with a contrarian play. Tyrod Taylor led his team to a victory against Denver last week and finished with 17.82 DK Points (17th ranked QB). Denver has an elite defense, and to be priced as the 26th QB this week against Atlanta is too low. I love targeting QBs playing in domes, and I think the fast turf will suite Tyrod’s style.
RB:
Lamar Miller 4,500 vs TEN (32nd Priced RB)
DraftKings has absolutely no love for Lamar Miller. I really do not understand why. First of all, I think he is a safe 10.00 DK points. Second, if he can break a big play he has top 10 RB potential -he did it last year with way less offensive talent around him. As the 32nd ranked RB, I will play him with confidence in every entry this week.
Andre Ellington 3,800 vs SF (67th Priced RB)
Ellington can break one any time he gets the ball. His targets are trending up, so I like his chances to put up a solid line against the 49ers. He was the only RB who could get anything going last week against Dallas, and I would not be surprised if he sees even more snaps against San Francisco.
DraftKings NFL GPP Boom-or-Bust Picks
WR:
Marqise Lee 4,500 @ NYJ (48th Priced WR)
I am terrified to play Jacksonville and Baltimore players coming off of the London trip this week. However, I love the upside of Marqise Lee. Lee has been targeted 23 times this year and has two double-digit DK performances without getting into the end zone (per DraftKings.com). I hope the Jets place their full attention on Marcedes Lewis this week so that Lee is able to traverse the pylons.
Jordan Matthews 3,900 (68th Priced WR)
Stacking QB with WR is a great strategy in GPP contests. Yes, JMatt and Tyrod are unlikely to go off, however, if they do and put up a crazy line, then I like my chances at making some crazy cash. I will definitely roster this combo in a tournament this week, because why not. JMatt is averaging over 20 yards per catch this season, so the big play potential is definitely there.

Adam Humphries 3,300 vs NYG (92nd Priced WR)
Bumping this guy by $200 means nothing to me. Just about everything I loved about last week’s argument holds true again this week. Janoris Jenkins and Eli Apple locking down Mike Evans and DeSean Jackson means another big opportunity for Adam Humphries. I am 99% sure Jameis Winston cannot read a defense, so locking in on Humphries for 10 targets last week tell me that Winston trusts him to get open.
TE:
Julius Thomas 2,900 vs NO (27th Priced TE)
I am going back to the well this week. Julius Thomas’s targets are on the rise (2 more targets than last week per DraftKings.com) and he has an amazing matchup this week against a terrible Saints defense, yet his salary dropped $100. This does not make sense to me. I mentioned last week how Jay loves tight ends – not just a Kristin Cavallari reference – and it seems to me that it should be a “good Jay” week after his poor performance in a loss to the Jets.
