5 running backs the Green Bay Packers could acquire
1. DeAngelo Williams, Free Agent
Williams was not brought back by the Pittsburgh Steelers during the offseason, and he’s still available now approaching a month into the season. A potential foray into pro wrestling did not go any further than a one-time thing, and Williams later drew some attention by declaring four teams he would not play for.
Williams is an older back, at 34 years old. But a mix of splitting carries, being a backup and a few injuries sprinkled in has yielded just four seasons with 200 or more carries in his 11-year career. When pressed into significant duty in Le’Veon Bell’s stead with the Steelers in 2015, Williams had 907 rushing yards (4.5 yards per carry), 11 rushing touchdowns and 40 receptions.
Williams surely would not mind playing for Packers, as they are the favorite to win the NFC North, are one of the better teams in the conference and obviously have Aaron Rodgers holding things down under center. Any negotiating leverage is also diminished at his point, so his price should be right for the Packers as long as Williams still wants to play and is in requisite physical condition.

Williams is one of the more underrated running backs of his era, and he show two years ago he can still be very productive north of 30 years old. If the Packers haven’t already called his agent, they should be doing so soon.
