Main’s Mavericks – Week 5 DraftKings NFL GPP Picks

Main’s Mavericks is providing weekly DraftKings NFL GPP contest advice by searching out low-salary, low-ownership DraftKings NFL plays destined to beat their value. As a general rule for this article, I target players below $5,000. My goal is to pick value plays who I believe can exceed 4-5 times their value (EX: $5,000 player x 4 = 20DK Pts). I will be using all of my picks in Week 5 DraftKings NFL GPP tournaments as boom-or-bust punt options. Saving on these volatile players will allow you to pay-up for superstars when building that $1,000,000 lineup.

 How I did last week:

Tyrod Taylor 5,300 @ ATL (26th Priced QB) – 12.48 (18th QB)
Lamar Miller 4,500 vs TEN (32nd Priced RB) – 29.10 (5th RB)
Andre Ellington 3,800 vs SF (67th Priced RB) – 19.40 (12th RB)
Marqise Lee 4,500 @ NYJ (48th Priced WR) – 3.80 (>50th WR)
Jordan Matthews 3,900 (68th Priced WR) – 9.00 (45th WR)
Adam Humphries 3,300 (92nd Priced WR) – 13.00 (27th WR)
Julius Thomas 2,900 vs NO (27th Priced TE) – 4.90 (33rd TE)

How about that week we had! Two players demolished their pricing and finished with a point total greater than 5 times their value. Lamar Miller was in fact priced too low, and he put up one of those 20+ point efforts that I referred to (go re-read my Week 4 article to jog your memory). In fact, he almost put up 30 and he was able to finish as a top 5 DFS RB! That is 28 spots higher than his pricing, for those of you keeping track at home. If that was not enough, Andre Ellington almost snuck into the top 10, beating his pricing by a whopping 55 spots!

Tyrod Taylor had a solid week, leading his team to a huge upset on the road. His lone TD pass went to Jordan Matthews, who unfortunately left the game early in the second half. Adam Humphries crushed his pricing once again, finishing inside the top 30 WRs. Julius Thomas and Marquise Lee both had tough outings behind poor quarterback play. Let’s see if we can get all 7 picks to beat their Week 5 DraftKings NFL value’s. Enjoy!

Week 5 DraftKings NFL GPP Picks

QB:

Blake Bortles 4,800 @ PIT ( Priced QB)
Call me crazy, but I absolutely love this matchup. I think Bortles will throw for 200 yards and rush for 50+ yards this week. The Steelers secondary has been good this year, but I think Bortles will have time to throw/scramble if his receives cannot get open. Do not be surprised when I reference Bortles legs in my Week 6 article.

RB:

Frank Gore 4,400 vs SF (Priced RB)
The ageless wonder never ceases to amaze me. Gore hardly appears to have lost a step in his 13th season. The Colts will win this game, and I see Frank Gore having a big part in that. The 49ers defense has given up over 600 all-purpose yards to running backs this year, ranking them as the 5th worst unit (per fantasy.nfl.com). To throw fuel on the fire, the 49ers gave up on Frank Gore a few years ago. Give me Gore to show up his old team.

JD McKissic 3,200 vs SF (Priced RB)
Am I overreacting to last week’s 65 yard 2 touchdown performance? Yes I am. But I am arguing here that the hype is warranted. That Rams secondary is bad! And with the Seattle backfield decimated by injury, I see JD MicKissic grabbing 10-20 touches this week and being heavily involved in the passing game. Warning: I see his ownership being much higher than the plays I usually throw your way – I am blaming Chris Collinsworth’s SNF rant about how great JD looks in practice.

WR:

Paul Richardson 4,600 @ LAR (48th Priced WR)
I love me some Paul Richardson this week. Not only is he matched up against the LA Rams porous secondary, but he is also returning to his hometown of LA. Home cooking and family in the stands sounds like a winning combination to me. Start him with confidence.

Brandon Marshall 4,600 vs LAC (68th Priced WR)
Marshall has garnered 11 and 10 targets the last two weeks (per fantasypros.com). Matching up against the 12th worst unit against the pass (per fantasy.nfl.com) looks like a perfect breakout game for the veteran. We are going to see every trick both teams have up their sleeve, as two winless squads put everything on the field with hope to salvage their season. I will lean on Marshall, who looks like he finally has his feet under him in New York.

Terrance Williams 3,600 vs GB (92nd Priced WR)
If you have read my article you know how much I love to target games that Vegas tells me will be high scoring. Vegas pegs this game for 53 points (per vegasinsider.com), the second highest total on the board. If this one is high scoring, then Terrance Williams is simply underpriced. Based on what I have seen from the Cowboys to this point, T-Will is the home-run threat wide receiver. If Dak is forced to throw the ball 40 times, I can easily see one of those being a deep post route to Williams.

TE:

Jesse James 3,000 vs JAX (23rd Priced TE)
Ever since my epic Austin Hooper call in week 1, my TE picks have not earned me any Twitter followers. Let’s see if we can change that! Jesse James has been a solid option all year, averaging 9.9 DK points a game. DraftKings really botched his valuation this week ranking him the 23rd priced option. I see him outperforming his valuation against a Jacksonville squad that struggles against tight ends. Through the team’s first 3 games, Jacksonville ranks 27th against fantasy tight ends giving up 223 yards and 2 TDs (per fantasy.nfl.com).
